Duration: 6 MonthsJob Description:
  • An AS400 Synon DBA is responsible for maintaining, securing, and optimizing databases on the IBM iSeries platform, particularly those built or supported by Synon (CA 2E) applications.
  • They ensure the integrity, security, and performance of these crucial business data stores.
  • Responsibilities: Database Administration: Setup, configure, and maintain the DB2 database on iSeries.
  • Monitor database performance and perform tuning for optimal efficiency.
  • Implement and manage database security measures, including user access and permissions.
  • Perform regular backups and recovery processes.
  • Manage SQL Triggers and journal maintenance.
  • Provide technical support for database-related issues.
  • Synon Application Support: Analyze, design, and program on iSeries systems, particularly for applications developed in Synon (CA 2E).
  • Troubleshoot and debug Synon applications and programs.
  • Enhance and support existing Synon applications.
  • Integrate Synon applications with other iSeries components like RPG, CL, and DB2/400.
System Administration:
  • Assist in installation, configuration, and maintenance of iSeries hardware and operating system software.
  • Manage system resources and ensure optimal utilization.
  • Coordinate software installation, upgrades, and patches.
  • Participate in capacity planning, disaster recovery, and high availability planning.
Collaboration and Documentation:
  • Collaborate with developers, IT teams, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and provide technical support.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting.
  • Participate in project teams and provide updates to management.
Technical Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of IBM iSeries (AS/400) administration and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with DB2 database administration, including performance tuning and optimization.
  • Strong in Synon
  • Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages.
  • Experience with Synon (CA 2E) development toolset.
  • Knowledge of related programming languages like RPG, CL, and COBOL is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with data backup and recovery strategies and best practices.
  • Understanding of database architecture and data modeling.
  • Experience with specific tools like Data Mirror, Tivoli, Mimix, or others as needed.
  • Problem Solving and Communication:
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to interact with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
