- Work collaboratively with MFM subspecialists to formulate and/or carrying out plans of care for patients with both maternal and fetal conditions; common high-risk complications include those with:
- Preexisting and gestational diabetes
- Chronic hypertension
- Breast cancer
- Fetal growth restriction
- Fetal cardiac anomalies
- Fetal renal anomalies
- Provide ongoing education to patients about their comorbidities and how they affect the prognoses of their pregnancies
- Provide diabetic education, counseling and ongoing support for patients who lack control
- Provide weekly review of patient diabetic and blood pressure logs, working collaboratively with the MFM subspecialists in updating/adjusting plans of care for those whose issues are not well-controlled.
- Provide patient care/ follow-up visits for those with various co-morbidities, alerting the MFM subspecialist when the patients’ conditions need further attention
- Consistently serve as an educational resource for the patient and family, community, and other health care professionals.
- Identify and document patient/family learning needs, readiness to learn, and level of understanding, incorporating family culture and belief systems on all patients.
- Participate in departmental/divisional Quality Improvement projects
- Participate in education of nursing staff, sonographers, students, and resident physicians
- Participate in the development of future outpatient high risk clinics.
- Participate in high-risk inpatient rounding on established patients.
- Follow through with plans of care as outlined by the high-risk team.
- Work with nurse navigators in ensuring the timely coordination of patient care and multidisciplinary care team meetings.
- In collaboration with the rest of the care team, communicate with medical assistants and nurse navigators to maintain a database of complex maternal/fetal cases to ensure compliance
- Continue to stay abreast of the latest national guidelines related to maternal and fetal comorbidities and, along with the rest of the care team, share information during periodic care team meetings
- Along with the high risk team, work collaboratively with other subspecialists to provide thorough ongoing care, updating referring providers about recommendations of care
- Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.
- State of Georgia Registered Nurse (RN) license
- State of Georgia Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) license
- Board certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Women's Health Nurse Practitioner.
- BLS/CPR certification at time of hire
- Must have one (1) year of recent experience as an NP in Women's Health or six (6) or more years of experience nursing in the field of Women’s Health prior to NP certification. One (1) year of recent experience in Maternal-Fetal Medicine highly preferred.
- Must be proficient in 1st trimester ultrasound, 2nd trimester Transvaginal Cervical Length Checks, AFI/NST/BPP review.
- Skill in patient interviewing, obtaining a concise medical history and acquiring pertinent data. Proficiency in documentation of patient conditions and outcomes.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill in performing a comprehensive OB/GYN assessment and general medical examination, identifying medical problems and formulate appropriate plan of action. Must be able to see patients independently.
- Experience interacting positively, constructively, and effectively with staff, physicians, patients, and the general public.
- Experience in performing effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload and frequent interruptions.
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of Epic (or willingness to be trained) for retrieval of patient data (Computer skills required; Epic preferred).
- Experience providing patient education and counseling and developing and implementing long- and short-range treatment plans.
- Demonstrated skill at working in a clinical.
- Demonstrated experience in research techniques, such as following a protocol, and in collecting all data precisely.
