Physician Assistant, Emergency MedicineKey Responsibilities:
- The assessment and management of patients at all acuity levels with medical and/or surgical complaints.
- Working in collaboration with board certified pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) physicians, PEM fellows, Nurse Practitioners, emergency medicine and pediatrics residents, and medical students.
- Performing detailed histories and physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, and developing and executing a wide range of care plans using sound clinical reasoning and critical thinking.
- Engaging in consultations with subspecialty services to aid in patient care.
- Performing emergency medicine procedures (including laceration repairs, incision and drainage, lumbar punctures, joint relocations, splinting, arthrocentesis, removal of nasal/ear foreign bodies, local nerve anesthesia and blocks).
- Developing discharge care plans with patients and families including prescribing medications and confirming primary care or specialty care follow-up. Working to promote and encourage optimal and realistic patient goals.
- Communicating with patients and family in a respectful manner leading to compassionate and empathetic care. Instructing and counseling patients regarding physical and mental health issues.
- Assisting in the education of medical and physician assistant students rotating in the department.
- Working 34.5 hours per week. Shifts are rotating Monday through Sunday and include days/evenings/overnights/weekends/holidays/on-call (Eligible for full-time benefits.)
Education:
- A Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies
- ED and/or pediatric PA experience preferred
- A Current Massachusetts PA License
