Overview:Foreign Affairs is the preeminent magazine on international affairs and U.S. foreign policy. Founded in 1922, it is published by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), which is a leading independent, nonprofit membership organization and nonpartisan center dedicated to producing and disseminating foreign policy ideas. Position Summary:We’re seeking a Business Development Associate to join the Foreign Affairs business team and support the growth of our institutional group subscriptions. Reporting to the Circulation Operations Director, the Associate will work cross-functionally to assist in driving revenue, supporting existing clients, and identifying new opportunities across our B2B business.This is an excellent opportunity for someone eager to work at the intersection of publishing, international affairs, and business strategy.This position is based in CFR’s NYC office on a hybrid basis. CFR currently defines hybrid status as working at least three days a week onsite, with Tuesdays and Thursdays considered institutional anchor days where all staff are required to be onsite. CFR’s remote working schedule is subject to change. The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to)::
In collaboration with the Circulation Operations Director, manage the customer lifecycle, including onboarding, renewals and billing
Develop lead generation strategies, including targeted research, direct outreach, advertising, and events
Collaborate with marketing and external partners to ensure smooth communication and support for group subscribers
Maintain tracking systems for leads, sales and renewals, and contribute to weekly and monthly reporting
Support team meetings by preparing agendas, taking notes, and helping document sales processes and best practices
Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required
Qualifications:Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or related discipline
At least 2 years of experience in business development, sales, marketing, or a related field

Highly organized with strong attention to detail
Proactive, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently and in team settings
Strong communication skills and comfort engaging with customers and partners
Comfortable managing customer records and subscription databases
Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets for data analysis and reporting
Experience with CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot) preferred
Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Basecamp) is a plus

Compensation and Benefits:
The full-time annual compensation range for this position is $60,000 – $65,000, depending on experience.
