Assistant Controller (Remote but based in CT)Position OverviewThe Assistant Controller will play a key role in supporting financial operations, partnering with senior leadership—including the Controller, Director of Finance, CFO, and departmental management—to enhance financial performance, strengthen internal controls, and optimize business processes. This position will focus heavily on general ledger integrity and inventory accounting within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who excels at cross-functional collaboration, drives operational efficiency, and has a deep understanding of accounting best practices and systems.Key ResponsibilitiesSupervise and mentor a team of four staff accountants; establish clear goals, provide ongoing feedback, and support professional development.Assist in managing the monthly close process, including journal entry review, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and timely financial reporting.Facilitate effective communication between the accounting team and other departments to ensure accuracy, alignment, and responsiveness.Lead efforts to streamline and automate accounting and reporting processes.Collaborate on the development and maintenance of internal controls and ensure compliance with evolving regulatory standards.Drive improvements in general ledger processes related to payroll, bonuses, compensation, and cash management.Oversee and refine balance sheet reconciliations across multiple business entities.Gain in-depth expertise in inventory accounting within the company’s ERP system (Epicor Eclipse) and how it integrates with the general ledger.Serve as a subject matter expert for technical accounting inquiries and ERP system functionality.Identify opportunities to automate and enhance financial and operational workflows.Provide support for annual audits (Financial, 401(k), Sales Tax, and lender audits) and prepare necessary documentation.Design and implement internal audit processes to mitigate financial and operational risk.Maintain and update company accounting procedures and standard operating processes (SOPs).Qualifications and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (required).Prior experience in an Assistant Controller or Accounting Manager role preferred with company annual revenues in excess of $300MStrong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting standards.Proficiency in advanced Excel functions (e.g., VLOOKUP, SUMIF, pivot tables).Deep knowledge of accounting principles, general ledger systems, and reconciliations.Proven ability to lead and develop a team in a fast-paced environmentDetermining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
