Job SummaryWe are currently seeking a Hospital Lab Technician I for the UCSF Clinical Cancer Genomics Laboratory (CCGL), within the Department of Genomics Services. Under general supervision, the successful applicant will provide clinical administrative and patient care support to the CCGL at the Mt Zion campus.This can include:
Receiving and processing surgical consult, Cytology, EM, and Histology specimens and accompanying requisitions from internal departments and external facilities.
Registering patients into APeX medical records system.
Communicating with internal departments and outside medical groups and insurance to verify billing information and obtain authorizations.
Accessioning clinical patient cases in Beaker, the APeX laboratory information management system (LIS).
Responding to requests from internal and outside facilities for patient slides and blocks.
Maintaining patient records, reports, slides, and blocks.
Supporting basic organization of the document control system (Master Control).
Providing general care and maintenance of CCGL laboratory areas.
The responsibilities of this position will require routine exposure to human biological specimens (e.g. blood and tissue), corrosive/oxidative chemicals (e.g. bleach), carcinogenic chemicals (e.g. formaldehyde, also known as formalin) and moderately toxic chemicals (e.g. xylene).The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. The salary range for this position is $39.63 - 49.47 (Hourly Rate).To see the salary range for this position (we recommend that you make a note of the job code and use that to look up):Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science; or two years of college courses in the natural sciences plus two years of applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of Windows applications
Ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities and perform well under pressure and deadlines
Ability to work in both an individual and team setting
Preferred Qualifications
BA/BS degree in a biological science
Coursework in Biology/Anatomy
2 years of experience in a hospital laboratory environment
Previous experience working in pathology or a molecular laboratory environment
Knowledge of medical terminology
Ability to understand the complexities within a specialty department
Working knowledge of APeX and/or Beaker systems
