Duties and responsibilities include conducting preliminary location, type and cost studies; preparing, supervising and approving design computations, plan specifications and estimates for bridges, separation structures, retaining walls, pedestrian facilities, tunnels, culverts, small buildings and other structures; developing, preparing, reviewing and approving construction and maintenance plans, specifications, proposals, estimate details and computations for both State designed and consultant designed projects; and performing other related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualification RequirementsTo qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:Professional License: In order to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position, applicants must possess knowledge of principles, practices, methods and techniques of structural engineering; engineering mechanics and the mechanics of materials as it relates to structural engineering design and functions; and the ability to perform and supervise structural engineering design, construction and inspection activities; analyze stresses and determine the required foundations and structural features. In addition, applicants must be technically and legally qualified to perform the functions of the position. Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements will apply.Engineering Experience: Four (4) years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience.Engineer V supervises the planning, design, construction, maintenance and/or operation of a number of major and complex engineering projects; or works independently on advanced planning, design or research projects involving elements of a highly critical or unprecedented nature; and performs other duties as required.At least one (1) year of Engineering Experience must have been comparable to the next lower level.
