Thompson Engineering is looking for a qualified Project Geotechnical Engineer.Project-Level Geotechnical EngineerOverview
The Project-Level Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for performing geotechnical engineering analyses and managing projects of varying scope and scale under the guidance of a Senior or Principal Engineer. This role supports transportation, heavy industrial, and infrastructure projects.Key duties include proposal preparation, fieldwork, engineering calculations, coordination of field and laboratory tasks, client interaction, and general civil engineering support.Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical & Field DutiesPerform and/or lead field drilling services and associated engineering analysis and calculationsPrepare geotechnical recommendations, designs, plans, and specificationsConduct observation and inspection servicesWrite, prepare, and review related technical reportsPerform field work including:Logging boringsSupporting cone penetration testing (CPT) operationsPerforming geotechnical field testingWorking alongside drill rigs and drilling crews, and/or on active construction sites related to Construction Materials Testing (CMT) servicesProject Management & CoordinationReview construction drawings for compliance with plans and specificationsPrepare proposals and cost estimatesTrack and evaluate project budgets and progress; recommend changes as neededAssign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for inclusion in reportsDesign & EngineeringResearch and resolve design and construction problemsAssist with the initial design and investigative approach for major project phasesApply sound engineering principles and communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholdersPlan, schedule, and coordinate engineering tasks involving both conventional and complex design requirementsLeadership & OversightProvide technical review and direction for complex investigationsSupervise analysis and ensure findings and recommendations are clearly formulated in client reportsReview and approve engineering documents and technical deliverablesQualificationsMinimum RequirementsBachelor's degree in Engineering (Master's degree preferred) from an ABET/EAC-accredited program0-5 years of experience in Geotechnical EngineeringAbility to lift 50 lbsWillingness and ability to travelThompson Engineering was formed in 1953 to provide quality assurance for construction projects related to industrial, infrastructure, and community development.
