- Maintains contact with parents, social workers, attorneys, school personnel, and others involved in resident case planning.
- Provides individual assessments and plans of care.
- Meets with residents on an individual basis to provide non-therapeutic counseling.
- Provides transportation for residents to outside appointments, home visits and employment.
- Provide evidence based programming, as needed.
- Reviews and updates the ACTIONS and Behavioral Stabilization Program Manuals on a regular basis.
- Provides training to Youth Specialists on program guidelines.
- Makes changes to programs when necessary.
- Will provide regular updates to YSC staff on the progress of youth in the ACTIONS Program.
- Organizes and leads staffings for youth in the facility and transitioning out of the facility.
- Documents staffing outcomes in eWisacwis.
- Contacts outside agencies to help arrange services for residents.
- Directly observes Youth Specialists compliance to facility behavioral management program.
- Provides training to all new Youth Specialists on behavioral management program.
- Provides coaching to Youth Specialists on proper behavioral management techniques.
- Provides feedback to YSC Administration on Youth Specialists behavioral management program compliance.
- Act as the YSC court liaison and attend court hearings of all youth placed at the YSC.
- Provide transportation of youth to court, when necessary.
- Advocate for youth during the court process.
- Communicates to facility staff on court related information on each youth.
- Conducts Custody Intake Duties and makes custody intake decisions based on youth justice policy and procedure, when necessary.
- Follows the daily schedule of activities as outlined in the Youth Services Center Policy.
- Supervises youth while on off-campus activities.
- Performs security, discipline, and suicide checks according to Youth Services Center policies.
- Knowledge of general trends in social work, and youth justice.
- Knowledge of behavioral and mental health disorders in youth.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care in residential settings for youth.
- Knowledge of DOC 346, DCF 59, Ch. 48, Ch. 938
- Knowledge of cognitive behavioral treatment interventions for youth involved in the youth justice system.
- Skilled in the use of personal computing and related software.
- Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work without supervision and to make appropriate decisions.
- Ability to work with a diverse population in a non- judgmental fashion.
- Knowledge of eWisacwis and the Youth Assessment Screening Instrument (YASI).
- Ability to lead treatment staffings.
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field. Individuals with a Master's degree in a human services field would be preferred.
- At least one year experience working in either the juvenile justice field.
- Knowledge of the Youth Justice system.
- Ability to respond in a crisis and physically control residents when necessary.
- Must receive certification as a Juvenile Intake Worker within first year of employment.
- Must posses and maintain a current unrestricted (not due to corrective lenses) driver's license and auto insurance pursuant to the Rock County Administrative Policy and Procedure Policy 5.02 and 5.27.
- CPR/AED Certification
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, when needed.
- Ability to walk up one flight of stairs
- Ability to lift and carry at least 20 pounds for at least 15 feet.
- Ability to squat to inspect cells under bunks, tables, etc.
- Ability to carry mattresses and bags of laundry
- Ability to push the food cart with trays of food
- Ability to push the mop bucket, move chairs and tables as needed
- Ability to lift, push/pull objects weighing up to 165 poundsAbility to respond in a crisis and physically control residents.
- Ability to walk up one flight of stairs.
- In an emergency situation, Youth Specialists must be able to physically restrain youth using the Principles of Subject Control (POSC); break up physical altercations between and with youth; provide suicide intervention and first aid as necessary; and lead evacuation and rescue efforts should there be an emergency situation in the building such as a power outage, fire, tornado, or other environmental issue.
- Ability to use a computer and computer keyboard.
- Ability to use a portable radio.
- Almost all indoor work with the ability to go on off-campus activities.
