- Primary responsibility for all marketing and advertising legal work, including Ulta Beauty’s loyalty program, Ultamate Rewards credit card programs, online and in-store marketing campaigns, talent agreements, and Company platforms such as UB Media Network and MUSE Accelerator.
- Primary responsibility for all pricing, promotions, and related legal work, including online and in-store pricing systems compliance, partnering with the business on pricing training and guidelines, and weights and measures enforcements.
- Develop and implement effective strategies for brand protection and trademarks portfolio management (including assistance with Ulta Beauty’s private label collection and brand related trademarks filings and claims) and maintain an active role in the innovation team’s initiatives concerning technology development and patents review.
- Counsel business partners, draft, review and negotiate contracts and transactions involving branding agencies, marketplace and other indirect suppliers.
- Advise on legal, regulatory and policy developments in the marketing in the retail space
- Proactively seek opportunities for and implement best practices and process improvements.
- Prepare reports and analyses of legal issues and provide business focused counseling on Company initiatives.
- Independently supervise outside counsel and develop and manage effectively outside counsel budgets.
- JD and excellent academic credentials.
- Admitted to practice law in the state of Illinois (for remote candidates admitted to practice law in states other than Illinois will be considered).
- At least 10 years of relevant legal experience in an in-house legal department and/or reputable law firm (combination is preferred).
- Experience with consumer facing/retail businesses (physical and digital) is strongly preferred.
- Substantial experience supporting all aspects of a wide variety of marketing, advertising, digital media, pricing and promotions related legal matters and agreements.
- Experience providing legal guidance and counseling on intellectual property related matters, including managing patents review and global trademark portfolio.
- Deep contracts and transactional negotiation and dispute resolution experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Requisite judgment to define, recommend, gain approval of and implement courses of action to support and enforce Company’s rights and minimize Company’s liabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize time, manage expenses and maximize productivity.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise outside counsel independently and effectively.
- Ability to build strong relationships with the legal team, business teams and executives.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through, and meet concurrent deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with attention to detail, manage tight deadlines and prioritize business projects.
- A strong desire to learn and contribute as part of a growing team.
- Positive energy, enthusiasm, flexibility, confidence, and ability to work collaboratively as well as cross- functionally in a dynamic, fast-paced environment are a must.
- Some travel is required.
- For remote position, regular (i.e. monthly) travel to Ulta Beauty’s headquarters in Bolingbrook, IL will be required
