The Principal serves as the instructional and operational leader of the school. This position demands a dynamic leader that will provide prioritized support and accountability to the school, resulting in rapid and sustained improvement in academic achievement. The Principal provides the vision and leadership to promote and sustain high academic achievement for all students and successfully carry out the implementation of the school and district strategic plans; exhibits thorough knowledge and practice of instructional leadership pertaining to instructional and assessment programs; displays proficiency in the integration of instructional technology; demonstrates operational and financial acumen; and deals sensitively and responsibly with the community, central office departments, and all internal and external stakeholders.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * Master’s Degree in Education is required; advanced degree is preferred;
  • Hold or be eligible for the appropriate Georgia Leadership Certification in the area of Educational Leadership;
  • Three years of successful experience in public school administration and/or supervision, plus five years of certified school experience required;
  • Successful track record as a Principal, preferred;
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board may find appropriate.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: * Provides visionary leadership to create and sustain a positive and inclusive school culture aligned with the school's mission and goals;
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to implement and continually refine the school's educational programs to maintain consistency with the District’s and school’s philosophy, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures;
  • Coordinates and executes actions for the school by ensuring barriers are removed and prioritized support is provided;
  • Sets the vision for school-wide operations, staffing, scheduling, testing and finance to ensure they are aligned with school goals and priorities;
  • Serves as the leader by providing high-quality instructional leadership in school turnaround strategies and best practices;
  • Participates regularly in classroom observations and collaborative planning to provide focused feedback on data meetings, classroom instruction,teacher feedback, and other programs;
  • Manages, reviews, monitors and provides feedback on school improvement action plans;
  • Ensures that the turnaround priorities and needs are clearly communicated to key stakeholders, thereby ensuring that key district staff understands the critical role they play in achieving sustainable change;
  • Collaborates with the human resources department to recruit highly qualified staff needed to turnaround schools;
  • Conducts and leads regularly scheduled meetings with leadership team and staff to monitor progress, provide leadership development, and technical expertise;
  • Employs frequent and open communication to ensure that expectations are vertically aligned and laterally supported to include district systems, processes, and practices;
  • Implements comprehensive systems to provide targeted support and allow for operational flexibility in the school;
  • Ensures that key resources (people, time, materials, and dollars) are aligned with the strategic plan and implementation strategy;
  • Leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive, innovative, and effective curriculum to enhance student learning and teacher effectiveness;
  • Coordinates stakeholder groups such as PTO and the Local School Governance Team;
  • Acts as a spokesperson for the school and actively participate in community events;
  • Provides ongoing support and professional development opportunities for staff members to build their knowledge in effective instructional design and academic standards;
  • Observes and support instructional coaches to ensure they are providing helpful, high-impact, actionable and bite-sized coaching and feedback to teachers on a consistent basis, modeling, co-planning with teachers and providing effective instructional models and strategies;
  • Ensures teachers can collaborate, analyze their practice and their student data, and adjust instruction in teams;
  • Models expectations for leaders, teachers, and students on school-wide practices for creating a positive learning culture;
  • Implements and enforces school policies to maintain discipline and uphold a positive learning atmosphere by establishing rules and regulations for proper student conduct that are consistent with the policies of the Board;
  • Ensures a safe and supportive environment for students to thrive academically and socially;
  • Assesses the strengths of the school, identifies the weaknesses, and takes supportive or corrective action as the situation demands;
  • Cultivates own growth, sustainability and success through active participation in district-wide professional development and by seeking out high-impact growth opportunities;
  • Monitors student progress and academic growth, communicates regularly with students and parents about student performance, and collaborates with colleagues to support student success;
  • Supervises and evaluates all faculty and staff;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
