Today, we're driving the energy transition with more than 30,000 of the brightest minds across 54 countries.Here, what you do matters.Job Overview:The Senior Principal Subsea Engineer is accountable for the technical delivery of the Subsea hardware scopes inclusive of Subsea valves, connectors and hot stabs and support package management activities including vendor performance, manufacture, qualification, transportation and delivery related to the Valves, Actuators, diverless connectors and ancillary scopes of work.Support Package Manager or act as a Package Lead for Subsea Hardware Procurement and responsible for the preparation of specifications, Material requisitions and to perform technical bid evaluation of proposals from Subsea Hardware vendors.The candidate should have a good understanding and knowledge of Subsea diverless connectors and valves from an engineering design point and view and industry codes applicable to these scopes.Responsibilities:Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Act as a Lead for SURF projects and bids with respect to Subsea Hardware and Piping Materials
  • Lead the Discipline engineering design of the assigned work area and complete within planned schedule and budget, in accordance with standards, MDR and project-specific procedures and to a high professional standard
  • Selection of suitable hardware for Subsea SURF Projects including valves, actuator and diverless connectors
  • Preparation of the Subsea Valve and diverless connector Specifications, Datasheets, MTO's considering the functional requirements of the SURF Project
  • Coordinate with Instrument department in the preparation of Actuator specifications
  • Coordinate with Material Specialist in selection of suitable materials for the Subsea hardware
  • Prepare the Material Requisition, Scope of Work and Purchase Requisition for the Subsea hardware
  • Review of technical quotation from subsea hardware vendors, raising of technical clarifications where relevant to enable technical bid evaluation to be performed providing technical recommendation for vendor award. Inclusive of qualification status that would be required to be communicated and justified to COMPANY.
  • Attend kick-off meetings and pre-production meetings, and regular (weekly, monthly) Package meetings, with the vendor(s)
  • Review and approve Vendor data such as GA drawings & Cross-sectional drawings, data sheets, FEA, ITP, FAT procedures, and manufacturing data books etc.
  • Ensure all Vendors meet Technical compliance to specification, scope of work and Subcontract terms and conditions
  • Review and approve hardware designs and calculations. Such reviews and approvals shall be undertaken with inputs from McDermott subject matter experts.
  • Review of ROV accessibility for all structures and ROV tooling and co-ordination with supplier for required adjustments
  • Prior experience and understanding of ROV connector tooling and tie-in operations
  • Prior experience and understanding of subsea actuator retrieval & replacement systems
  • Provide assistance during fabrication and testing at yard, as and when required
  • Provide assistance / technical inputs during installation and pre-commissioning, as needed
  • Ensuring that Vendor documentation is reviewed on schedule and in accordance with Project requirements
  • Ensuring that Vendor documentation is reviewed by the appropriate McDermott Departments and personnel via Project IDC, and collation and return of McDermott comments along with comments from Client to Vendor for action
  • Raise and close out TQs / Interface Requests related to the equipment with the Client and Vendor
  • Manages all interfaces between various McDermott disciplines and Suppliers(s) for the subsea hardware
  • Maintain close co-ordination with other engineering disciplines. Supply Chain Management, Structures, Planning, Fabrication, Marine, and Project Management Team, as required
Qualifications:Essential Qualifications and Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 15 years experience in subsea hardware primarily diverless connectors and valves/ actuator systems including selection/specification of valves and connection systems, design, qualifications, procurement support, manufacturing, vendor document review, FAT, service and operation
  • Experience working for Subsea hardware Vendors preferred
  • Detailed knowledge of design techniques and analysis methods, and detailed knowledge of the theory, content and application of standards, codes and guidelines as applicable for offshore including API, DNV, ASME, ASTM, ISO International Standards related to the Subsea Valves and Piping
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
