OverviewABOUT THE POSITIOStructural Engineer – Building Structures | HybridOur New York office is expanding its structures team. In this position, you would serve an important role in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of new building structures and existing building renovation, with a current focus on transportation-related buildings such as rail and transit stations, parking facilities, and highway and railroad overbuilds. The ideal candidate should possess a “can-do” attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast-paced, and fun environment. The position includes significant opportunities for personal and professional development and growth within VHB’s emerging building design practice in New York and New Jersey.Responsibilities
  • Supports, develops, organizes, and implements structural planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for transportation related building structures
  • Project scoping and development
  • Mentors team members in the development of design plans, technical oversight, specifications, design calculations, load ratings, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, etc. Provides technical oversight and review of structural designs.
  • Assists with project budgets and schedules
  • Assists with proposals and presentations for rail/transit pursuits
Skills & Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in structural engineering
  • Must possess strong technical skills with knowledge of various building structural systems and codes
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrates excellence in verbal presentations and technical writing
  • Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
  • Robust technical and critical thinking skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail and quality
  • Ability to lead and collaborate with a team of staff working remotely

  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in the use of structural engineering and BIM software such as STAAD.pro, RISA 3D, PCA Design Software, RAM Steel, Tekla, MathCAD, Revit, Microstation, and AutoCAD
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required, master’s degree preferred (may substitute for 1-2 years of experience)
  • Minimum 5-8 years of structural engineering experience required
  • Licensed PE (Professional Engineer) required, SE a strong plus
  • Experience with renovations and new construction preferred
  • Experience working on projects owned and operated by transit agencies such as MTA, Amtrak, and/or NJ Transit
  • NYCT station experience preferred
  • Familiarity with Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build project delivery
  • OSHA 30 Construction certification preferred
Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in New York City is $110,000-135,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.We are VHB!
