Job RequirementsPosition SummaryA Senior Medical Laboratory Technician (Sr. MLT) performs various quantitative and qualitative clinical laboratory studies to comply with physician requests for analyses of various blood, body fluids and tissues, to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. An Sr. MLT must follow established laboratory standards, practices, and procedures. The Sr. MLT will also have additional duties assigned, such as procedure development and revisions, technical support of new instrumentation or testing, routine quality checks, and LIS duties. The Sr. MLT understands and complies with the Standards of Behavior and department policies, procedures, and regulations.Minimum RequirementsEducation
  • Associate degree in the laboratory related science with the completion of an approved technical training program.
Experience
  • Minimum of three years in a hospital laboratory.
  • Three years of clinical experience in the assigned area.
License/Registration/Certifications
  • MLT registry through an acceptable laboratory registry

Core Job Responsibilities
  • Provide and understand the specific communication needs of laboratory patients and families ranging from neonate-birth to geriatric.
  • Make decisions about sample collection and handling, perform testing of samples, and maintain accurate records and reporting of test results with knowledge of abnormal, normal and critical values.
  • Perform instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control.
  • Withstand the stress and demands of an active position while responding calmly and efficiently in crisis situations.
  • Work as a team member, demonstrating good interpersonal skills, follow Standards of Behavior and communicate professionally with physicians, management, and staff.
  • Follow established standards and practices to perform various quantitative and qualitative laboratory studies for diagnosis and treatment of disease.
  • Understand and comply with SRHS System and Laboratory department policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Handle moderate chemical, biological, and/or low-level radiation exposure.
  • Possess the critical thinking skills to make decisions and use appropriate judgment.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting of data.
  • Handle high stress situations while reacting appropriate with a calm and efficient demeanor.
  • May be required to perform critical tasks within special pathogens lab.
  • May be required to train new associates and students.
  • Pass a color vision test.
  • If eligible, perform Direct Observation per CMS guidelines.
  • Oversee clinical and administrative activities in designated laboratory area.
  • Assist in resolving issues, developing procedures, and ensuring regulatory readiness.
  • Maintain in-depth technical knowledge of designated department and demonstrate competence in all laboratory areas.
  • Work with leadership to ensure all associates complete the annual CAP competency requirements for your respective area.
