This role is primarily focused on ideating, assigning, editing, and publishing timely news and in-depth features that highlight key clinical research findings and other critical topics relevant to psychiatric practice. The Editor will join Haymarket’s Medical Communications Group, a dynamic, science-driven editorial team, and will collaborate closely with colleagues on our central nervous system vertical, including Neurology Advisor and Sleep-Wake Advisor. This position is based in our New York City office, with a hybrid schedule that allows for in-office collaboration with the team on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and remote work on Mondays and Fridays.Job Overview:Psychiatry Advisor is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Editor to lead the creation of clinically relevant, engaging content for a diverse audience of psychiatry health care professionals. The Editor will oversee the end-to-end development of a wide range of content, including news stories, feature articles, quizzes, videos, podcasts, slideshows, and polls.The ideal candidate will bring strength in both content ideation and data-driven decision-making. This role involves managing a team of freelance medical journalists to produce original content, building relationships with health care professionals, and leveraging instincts, analytics, and audience feedback to refine editorial strategy and boost engagement. Working closely with colleagues across the psychiatry, neurology, and sleep medicine team, the Editor will ensure that all content meets the highest standards of clinical accuracy, editorial quality, and audience relevance.This is a unique opportunity for a self-starter with a passion for medical journalism and a talent for translating complex science into accessible, practice-changing insights.Responsibilities:Managing a team of freelance medical journalists for news and feature content creationIndependently creating feature content (eg, disease overviews, clinician interviews, podcast episodes)Editing and fact-checking, including formatting, ensuring reference accuracy, adherence to AMA style, tagging, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to adhere to workflows to meet timelines and prioritiesPublishing content in WordPressCollaborating with external teams to ensure content is available for daily newslettersEnsuring SEO through consistent use of best publishing practices and monitoring growth and performance using analytics tools (Google Analytics)Providing real-time coverage of major medical meetingsOverseeing and maintaining editorial budgetsSkills and Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in English/Journalism/Communications or Biological Sciences; advanced degree and clinical experience desirable; experience in/exposure to psychiatry, neurology, sleep medicine, or other related medical specialties preferred5+ years’ experience in medical publishing/communications/advertising, with excellent ability to edit and fact-check medical content, including proficiency with AMA styleProficient at maintaining a robust volume of content and a steady daily flow of article publicationExcellent reading comprehension, listening, and analytical skills, and oral and written communication skillsA successful record of handling multiple simultaneous projects and adhering to deadlinesExperience as a strong team player who can work independently and cross-functionally within an organization, and follow through on all assigned tasksKnowledge of SEO best practices, social media, and other digital promotional strategiesUnderstanding of the needs of medical professional audiences, or demonstrated ability to identify the needs of a highly specialized audience; experience in content targeted to an audience of health care specialistsWhat We Offer:A competitive compensation packageThe salary range for this position is $70,000-$75,000.
