Resident engineers are part of Ford Motor Company's Product Development organization and are on-site at the manufacturing facilities producing components or subsystems which are supplied to our vehicle assembly plants. Resident engineers are responsible for working with the manufacturing team to identify, contain and resolve ongoing quality issues and are also responsible for component and system launches in the plant. Residents will work closely with the propulsion design teams, calibration, plant vehicle teams and core quality.This position is located on-site at Rawsonville Components Plant and is responsible for the fuel system components, air induction system components, ignition components, transmission components and HV batteries produced at the plant. This plant is located Ypsilanti, MI, USA.Responsibilities:What you'll do…Quality: * Co-Lead Variability Reduction Team with Manufacturing to address low time in service (LTIS) quality issues past product launch.
- Prioritize ongoing and emerging issues using leading and lagging indicator data and analysis focusing on design and production related issues at the engine plant.
- Define and investigate issues including developing trends based on vehicle line, time in service, operating conditions, locations and other critical factors.
- Lead and/or support cross-functional teams through root cause, corrective action and prevent reoccurrence actions.
- Conduct prevent reoccurrence action (PRA) read across to other engine plants through communication with the other residents. Implement PRAs as appropriate.
- Represent Product Development during plant containment actions including quality holds, stop ships.
- Partner with functional quality personnel to lead emerging and ongoing issue discussions in propulsion (engine, induction, exhaust), fuel and thermal system quality meetings.
- Attend leadership manufacturing and product quality meetings including Plant Quality Review (PQR), Functional Quality Review (FQR), Director Quality Review (DQR) as needed.
- Lead and/or attend working level quality meetings.
- Support safety and regulatory reviews as necessary.
- Manage Launch specific alerts and assist in launch issue resolution.
- Support Concern process, ensuring changes are feasible, include plant costs, and have plant concurrence.
- Review, investigate, and authorize SREA's.
- Support engine plant Manage the Change process, conduct trials as necessary.
- Coordinate IP and Conformity of Production engine testing.
- Learn, follow and communicate Powertrain Procedures (PTP).
Bachelor of engineering or similar degree.
5+ years of experience in engine Product Development, Quality, Manufacturing or Systems Engineering.Even better, you may have...
Master of engineering or related degree.
Six Sigma Black Belt preferred
Excellent problem-solving skills with solid understanding of problem-solving methodologies.
