Job Description:Title: District Secondary Teacher AssociateLOCATION: ArgentineThe Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students and 60+ different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. To serve our students, the district employs approximately 4,000 employees including more than 1,800 teachers.JOB GOAL:Kansas City Kansas Public Schools is seeking several District Secondary Teacher Associate with the ability to support 6-12th grade students with diverse backgrounds in digital courses. District Secondary Teacher Associates will be the liaison with a distance licensed teacher to support classroom learning and maintain classroom management during the entire school year. They will support distance learning, coursework completion, and be a liaison between the distance licensed teacher, secondary students, families, and the school building administrators within an assigned classroom.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Reinforce strong classroom systems and procedures to maximize student learning time.
  • Reinforce clear classroom rules and expectations so all students can thrive in a digital learning environment.
  • Mange student behavior to foster a positive learning environment in accordance with building administers school expectations.
  • Communicate regularly with the Proximity Learning Teacher to build a collaborative partnership.
  • Be the liaison of grade input from Proximity Canvas LMS to the district grading system.
  • Troubleshoot basic technology support as needed within the classroom.
  • Collaborate with school registrar, or designated employee, to update student enrollments via PLI connect.
  • Communicate proactively in partnership with Proximity Teacher with parents regarding student learning in the digital classroom.
  • Communicate initial login information to students at the start of the classroom sessions and program.
  • Maintain communication with academics/learning services staff who oversee KCKPS students’ education progression.
QUALIFICATIONS:Have a high school diploma or a GED certificate and
  • Complete 48 hours at an institution of higher education OR
  • Obtain an associate’s (or higher) degree OR
Pass a State approved assessment. Approved assessments include: Workkeys, ParaPro, or Para Educator (If you do not have a State approved assessment, KCKPS will offer one credential assessment test to candidates recommended for hire)COMMUNICATION/ORGANIZATION: Maintains communication with internal and external stakeholders such as Board of Education, teachers, other school personnel, parents/guardians, and community to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students. Supports gathering data for school purposes. Maintains confidentiality regarding district records. Ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication. Includes giving basic instructions, supporting classroom assignments, or giving basic directions to students to carry out duties.REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Requires the ability to observe and support classroom management rules and guidelines.LANGUAGE SKILLS: Functions of the job include reviewing and adhering to policies, and/or regulations; personnel processes. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances.
