Will converse and assist the public in person, by phone and in writing to a variety of inquiries requiring knowledge of the Illinois Vital Records Act and Code. Makes independent decisions within the scope of the assigned area of responsibility, exercising considerable independent judgment in making determinations on various important vital records and problems which do not involve deviation from established polices and procedures.Benefits StatementAs a State of Illinois Employee, you will receive a robust benefit package that includes the following:

  • Prepares certified and non-certified photographic reproductions of specific documents.
  • Types amendments on IVRS for certificates of birth and death and on paper for fetal deaths as provided by co-workers through photocopies of records with noted amendments.
  • Regularly lifts, moves and search through bound books of records for specific documents indicated by co-workers within unit or other operation areas in the Division of Vital Records and routes the record for the indicated process.
  • Verifies information, corrections or amendments on records by telephone to co-workers within unit or other operating areas in the Division of Vital Records..
  • Processes new certificates of birth based on legal adoption and legitimation and places “place holders” in the correct position and ensures the removal of the certificate withdrawn.
  • Trains and works with new employees or part-time personnel assigned at Archives in the different methods and procedures for entering all amendments on the face of original certificates of fetal death and on IVRS.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
  • Requires two (2) years of office experience.
  • Requires the ability to type accurately at 45 w.p.m. rate.
