Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in Environmental Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field.A minimum of one year of experience in target and non-target analysis using LC-MS/MS or LC-HRMS working with emerging contaminants such as PFAS, opioids and illicit drugs, pharmaceuticals and personal care products, 6-PPDQ, and 1,4-dioxane.Preferred Qualifications:
Multi-year experience with advanced analytical instrumentation, including LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, and LC-HRMS, in an environmental or analytical research setting. Demonstrated experience with non-target analysis for the detection and quantification of emerging contaminants and their degradation products.Position Summary:
The New York State Center for Clean Water Technology ( ) is seeking a motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Associate to support and manage operations within its state-of-the-art mass spectrometry laboratory. The lab is equipped with advanced instrumentation, including two triple quadrupole LC-MS/MS, QToF LC-HRMS, GC-MS/MS, ion chromatography, FT-IR, and other analytical equipment.This position involves both technical and research support responsibilities. The successful candidate will contribute to method development, target and non-target analysis of environmental contaminants, and maintenance of analytical equipment. The role includes active collaboration with CCWT researchers, graduate students, and external partners such as the U.S. EPA, New York State Department of Health, and Department of Environmental Conservation.The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Center's Associate Director of Emerging Contaminants Research.This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge environmental research and analytical method development in support of clean water solutions and working with important local, state, and federal stakeholders. Candidates with a passion for analytical chemistry and collaborative science are strongly encouraged to apply.Key Responsibilities:● Sample Collection and Analysis: Conduct sample preparation, instrument analysis, data interpretation, and QA/QC procedures across various environmental matrices (e.g., water, wastewater, soil). Prepare and deliver analytical reports to clients and collaborators.● Method Development: Develop and optimize analytical protocols for the detection of emerging contaminants, including both target and non-target analyses using LC-MS/MS, LC-HRMS, and GC-MS/MS.● Instrument Maintenance and Training: Perform routine maintenance, coordinate service schedules, and troubleshoot analytical instruments. Provide training and support to graduate students and research staff on instrument operation and data analysis.● Laboratory Management: Maintain inventories, manage purchasing of laboratory supplies, and ensure compliance with safety protocols and laboratory certifications.● Research Support: Assist in the preparation of scientific proposals, manuscripts, and presentations based on laboratory findings and collaborative research outcomes.● Other Duties: Participate in collaborative initiatives and undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Director.Skills and Competencies:● Proficiency in mass spectrometry-based analysis of trace organics in complex environmental samples.● Strong understanding of QA/QC protocols in analytical laboratories.● Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.● Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.Special Notes:
