in job descriptions but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Collaborates with the Program Coordinator to lead and maintain the day-to-day operations of the child care program and in accordance with DHS State Certified Center compliance and quality initiatives.
- Observes, evaluates and reports the children’s developmental progress, health and well being; assures the space promote learning in a safe environment for the youth.
- Delivers classroom and recreational services; assists with attendance, parent pick up and drop off, clerical duties, behavior management, and classroom preparation and setup.
- Supervises, observes, and assists with positive interactions between program youth. Builds community within the group and establishes a welcoming, engaging, respectful, cooperative environment.
- Plans and implements appropriate enrichment and recreational activities for Minneapolis Kids youth, as appropriate, consults with Program Coordinator and other program staff when planning. Submit weekly activity plans.
- Coordinates the work of Child Care Assistants and volunteers.
- Assists youth in learning and recreational programs; reinforces positive behavior, provides individual assistance, encourages socialization. Provide appropriate behavior guidance and take appropriate disciplinary action when needed.
- Performs clerical duties, maintains and organizes files, keeps records and assists with reports.
- Provides customer service to parents and guardians; initiates and maintains appropriate daily contact and communications with parents/guardians. Answers program-related questions.
- Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment
- Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
- Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis
- At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.
