An IntroductionMaui Humane Society is a beautiful, open-air animal shelter for cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, turtles, and other animals in need of safe shelter. We are the island’s only open-admission animal shelter, providing veterinary and routine care and helping surrendered animals find a new home. We also provide humane law enforcement services, humane education and outreach, and low-cost spay and neuter surgeries. Reporting directly to the Director of Field Services, this position is dedicated to providing compassionate care and enrichment for dogs while offering exceptional customer service to community members seeking assistance with pet reunification and resources. This dynamic role demands adaptability, empathy, and proactive problem-solving skills as you maintain clean and sanitary dog habitats, monitor animal health, and utilize Fear Free handling techniques to ensure humane interactions. In addition to caring for animals, you will assist pet owners in navigating resources, documenting animal behavior, and supporting efforts to reunite lost pets with their families.By fostering a collaborative environment, you contribute significantly to the mission of the Maui Humane Society, making a lasting difference in the lives of pets and their people.What you need to be successfulTo thrive as an Animal Care Enrichment/Pet Resource Specialist at the Molokai Animal Control Kennels, candidates must possess a blend of skills and qualifications. A solid understanding of animal behavior is needed, allowing individuals to provide high-quality care in a safe and nurturing manner. Excellent customer service skills are critical, as you will interact with community members to facilitate pet reunification and offer guidance on resources. The ability to multitask with keen attention to detail is necessary, as the role demands managing various responsibilities simultaneously.The position requires being active throughout the shift and lifting up to 50 lbs. Proficiency with an MHS laptop for inventory management and communication is also required. A passion for animal welfare and adherence to humane treatment principles are vital, along with a positive attitude and a willingness to collaborate with a dedicated team. Previous experience in animal care or a related field is advantageous.Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
  • Equipment Used:
  • Various cleaning tools animal care and restraint equipment.
  • An MHS laptop to access our animal inventory program and MHS email and documents.
  • Working Hours:
  • This is a full-time position with some weekend and evening hours. Number of hours and regular shift availability will be clarified at hire and may be subject to change. The position requires regular and predictable attendance.
  • Mental Demands:
  • Requires the ability to multi-task and have a high degree of alertness and attention to detail. Ability to read and write and follow written and oral communications.
  • Physical Demands:
  • Requires the ability to be physically active during the entire shift. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs. Ability to safely handle and control all kinds of pet animals.
  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • ▪ General knowledge of animal behavior.
  • ▪ Excellent customer service skills.
  • ▪ Demonstrate ability to care for animals in a safe and nurturing capacity.
  • General Qualifications:
  • ▪ Must have a passion for animals and support the mission of the Maui Humane Society.
  • ▪ Must treat animals humanely with love and concern both on and off the job and transmit these values to others.
  • ▪ Must adhere to all local laws regarding personally owned animals
  • ▪ General knowledge of pet behavior and care. Ability to work with all kinds of animals in a safe and responsible manner.

  • Additional Qualifications that would benefit this position:
