
Data Center Controls Engineer

- Coordinate the work of Controls Engineers, EITs, and BIM Specialists with the balance of a multidiscipline team throughout the entire project’s development.
- Mentor, organize, and facilitate the growth of junior staff.
- Coordinate workload through the entire project development to complete documents on schedule.
- Technical:
- Work with clients to understand their project specific requirements around reliability, growth increments, first cost versus life cycle costs, sustainability, construction schedules, and future flexibility.
- Work closely with the mechanical and electrical teams to develop controls strategies, including P&IDs, network architecture diagrams, control panel layouts and wiring diagrams, installation details, loop drawings, and technical specifications.
- Assume a substantial role in controls design for data center/mission critical projects.
- Assisting with the selection and specification of process instrumentation, control panels, and network equipment.
- Attend design meetings with other team members and lead controls discussions in the meetings.
- Conduct schematic, design development, and contract document work sessions in conjunction with the Project Manager, Project Architect, and other disciplines.
- Participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance.
- Design support during construction including field observations, submittal & shop drawing review, Request for Information (RFI) support.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Travel: Some travel to job sites or other HDR offices will be required. This would be communicated in advance to give adequate coordination time with project work and personal life.
- Successful completion of a minimum of 4 years of consulting engineering experience.
- Must take ownership of assignments and work both independently and as part of a large project team.
- Previous Data Center/Mission Critical experience an architectural/engineering, or engineering consulting firm is desired.
- Strong desire to stay current with the trends of the fast-paced industry of mission critical.
- Working knowledge of the following standards: Uptime Topology standards, ASHRAE TC 9.9, ASHRAE 90.4, and the ISO standards regarding PUE, CUE, and WUE.
- Working knowledge of the following programs: Revit, Bluebeam Revu, AFT Fathom (or a similar piping analysis software), and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Working knowledge of Newforma Project Center and/or ProjectWise Document Management Software
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Strongly motivated and showing professional initiative.

- Working knowledge of current industry codes and standards
- Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Technical and specification writing skills.
- NCEES Registration
- Preference given to local candidates.
- Active participation in industry organizations is encouraged. Participation in professional development seminars, courses, workshops, or conferences is encouraged and should be approved in advance of attendance.
- Additional industry certifications are also encouraged such as Uptime ATD.
- Maintain continuing education requirements for any certification or license
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Hands-on experience designing SCADA systems, including schematics and loops
- Experience managing control systems projects
- Knowledge of automation hardware including but not limitied to Allen-Bradley, Emerson, Foxboro, Modicon, Siemens, and GE.
- Knowledge of automation software including but not limited to Wonderware, iFix, FacotryTalk, VTScada, Ignition
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
