DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
General Summary:
The SAP MM analyst will contribute to a dynamic team of technology professionals in a fast-paced environment as you help create innovative solutions leveraging the SAP MM module for Procure to Pay processing, material grouping and reconciliation, and more. The position requires a strong well-rounded SAP MM professional who is eager to learn the City's existing financial processes, expand skillset around new procurement trends and implement new features and functionality which will support the City of Houston. The successful candidate will develop efficient, well structured, well documented technical solutions for SAP MM. Responsible for hands-on functional configuration in SAP MM modules. Provide SAP MM support performing required system configuration, various testing activities (regression and project related), along with following the established change management process.You will be intensely involved in business process consulting; you will define the problem, propose, and create the solution. You will guide teams on project processes, deliverables and contribute to the proposal development, client training and internal capability building and help detail the project scope. You will have the opportunity to shape value-adding consulting solutions that enable the City of Houston to meet today's changing needs.Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for supporting the City of Houston with SAP FICO processes and configurations, e.g., SAP Finance and Controlling, Funds Management, Materials Management, Fixed Assets, Project Systems, Treasury, etc.
  • Understand complex finance functions in order to assist the business in the development and modernization of critical finance systems and processes, due to the roles requirement of being a SAP MM subject matter expert (SME) requiring broad and deep ERP-SAP FICO and SAP MM experience.
  • 1-2 full life cycle implementations experience in SAP MM with expertise in sub-modules IM, WM, and PP.
  • Experience in supporting master data including material, vendor, customer, batch master, source list, info records, and pricing.
  • Assist the business in automation, optimization, and innovation finance related processes using the City's SAP finance system and related third party applications.
  • Serve as an application expert and support users in their daily, month end and year end processes using SAP.
  • Ability to evaluate and analyze the impact of configuration and process changes across other FI/CO, MM and SAP modules.
  • Responsible for supporting finance business users and controllership to clearly capture new requests for SAP finance code block, master data changes, etc.
  • Provide governance and oversight for critical finance interfaces, including IDOC and batch process monitoring and resolution.
  • Serving as a SME in one or more business areas, provide analytic support to all user departments of the SAP accounting services. Including develop ad-hoc custom reports and data extracts for management.
  • Experience creating detailed documentation, test scripts, and user training to support business processes and new development.
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to make timely and sound decisions based on logical assumptions and factual-in-formation.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use testing methodologies, processes, and tools for testing of functionality, including unit, integration, system, regression, and dry run testing.
  • Coordinate execution of project tasks in your functional area and be comfortable in working under the pressure of tight project deadlines.
  • Supporting the City's Fiscal Year End (FYE), as well as ensuring effective day-to-day operations and success of critical interfaces to banks, e.g., JPMorgan, etc.
WORKING CONDITIONSThis position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort in a normal office environment.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEDUCATIONRequires a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field. Usually has advanced technical certifications that demonstrate mastery of a specialized application.EXPERIENCEAt least six (6) years of technology experience supporting applications. Advanced certifications and/or greater than six (6) years applicable experience may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the education requirement.LICENSENonePREFERENCES**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **Preferences shall also be given to those with the following:
  • Previous public-sector experience
  • Certification in SAP in this field - SAP FICO, SAP Ariba, SAP MM
  • Direct experience with the Ariba on Demand Procure-to-Pay system implementation or testing experience.
  • Expertise in SAP Ariba with at least 2-3 full-lifecycle projects delivering new solutions.
  • Experience in implementing the Buying and Invoicing process.
  • Other IT certifications may be considered, such as ITIL.
