Our Data Strategy & Governance Office plays a central role in enabling data accountability, transparency, and quality across the enterprise. We are seeking a Data Governance & MDM Lead to establish and scale enterprise data governance, with deep expertise in customer master data and practical awareness of CRM environments.This position will offer flexibility for hybrid work schedules to include both in-office presence and telecommute/virtual work to be based in either Dallas or Houston, TX.Role OverviewThe Data Governance & MDM Lead will report to the VP of Data Governance and Strategy in a hybrid position in either our Houston or Dallas locations. The role will be responsible for building and operationalizing the enterprise data governance framework, ensuring that critical data is governed, well-defined, high-quality, and trusted across the organization. The candidate will lead efforts to define governance structures, drive data stewardship, implement standards and controls, and promote alignment across business and technology teams.While the primary focus is enterprise data governance, the role also supports key initiatives related to master data management (MDM).Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Governance Framework and Operating Model: Define enterprise-wide policies, standards, and procedures and role-based structures for data ownership, stewardship, and decision-making aligned to business domains.
  • Metadata and Data Catalog Management: Oversee implementation and adoption of metadata repositories, business glossaries, and data lineage tools to improve data discoverability and understanding.
  • Data Quality and Issue Management: Define data quality rules, metrics, and dashboards; oversee processes for issue identification, root cause analysis, and resolution.
  • Stakeholder and Steward Engagement: Build and support a community of business and technical data stewards; provide tools and training to enable stewardship accountability.
  • Policy Compliance and Risk Mitigation: Support enforcement of data-related policies and compliance with regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) through governance controls.
  • Tool Evaluation and Implementation: Contribute to the selection, implementation, and integration of data governance technologies (e.g., Collibra, Alation, DataZone).
  • Customer MDM Strategy: Define and support master data strategies for customer data, including creation of golden records, match/merge logic, survivorship rules, and stewardship processes. Ensure MDM solutions are properly integrated into data pipelines and downstream analytics/reporting environments.
QualificationsMinimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field plus at least 12 years of relevant experience in data governance, data management, or information architecture, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including at least 4 years of leadership experience
  • Experience deploying or supporting governance tools such as Collibra, Alation, or AWS DataZone.
  • Familiarity with Customer MDM in complex environments
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and their role in the broader data ecosystem.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles (e.g., ownership, stewardship, metadata, quality, compliance).
  • Ability to define and implement data governance and stewardship operating models at scale.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills to engage stakeholders across business and technology.
  • Analytical mindset with experience in defining KPIs, data metrics, and business impact reporting.
  • Passionate about enabling trusted data for enterprise decision-making and digital transformation.
  • Collaborative and diplomatic with the ability to drive alignment in a federated or matrixed organization.
  • Strategic thinker who can translate data governance into measurable business value.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CDMP, DGSP)
  • Experience with MDM and Cloud platforms preferred.
  • Experience within a similarly large, complex organization
