- Perform distribution and transmission design, provide transmission and substation project support, as well as a variety of other tasks as assigned by the Power Director
- Help develop and implement effective load forecasting models for future capacity projects
- Help to create system design, construction, and material standards
- Provide procurement support and bid evaluation for purchases on designed projects
- Review material supplier drawings, submittals, and coordinate between vendor design and project drawings
- Design and plan for system expansion, improvement projects, system protection, and coordination studies
- Maintains project databases, drawings, maps, easements, and rights of way
- Attends meetings and reviews plans submitted to the JUC (Joint Utility Committee)
- Meets with developers, engineers, and contractors. Helps prepare power designs based on those meetings
- Prepare engineering drawings and maps using various computer software
- Preform basic electrical calculations to determine correct electrical equipment sizing, Transformers, conductors, etc.
- Ensures that project designs and plans comply with codes, City standards, and engineering principles
- Performs related duties as required
- B.S. degree in Engineering from accredited institution, preferably with a power option
- Engineering experience which includes overhead transmission, distribution, and substation planning, analysis, calculations, and design
- Working knowledge and understanding of IEEE, NESC, ANSI standards
- Technical writing skills necessary to prepare design documentation and specifications
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with internal teams and customers regarding technical requirements
- Ability to prepare technical presentations, project schedules, and project progress reporting
- Must have strong computer skills and have advanced proficiency with various types of engineering software
- Familiarity with GIS and mapping tools.
- Utah P.E License in Electrical Engineering.
- At least 5 years of field experience in one or all of the following: industrial power systems design, service entrance, feeder and branch circuits, lighting, emergency power, and power distribution equipment is desired. Experience in project engineering, project management, and construction supervision is desired.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of principals involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, and production methods.
- Knowledge of pertinent federal and state laws and regulations; engineering economics and project management techniques; budget administration.
- Operation of computer, phone, tablet. Use of business applications such as word processing and spreadsheets.
- Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Ability to analyze, interpret and apply information, choose among alternative courses of action and arrive at a recommendation.
- Understand and implement laws, regulations, policies and procedures; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records.
- Prepare clear and concise written reports including technical material for nontechnical audiences.
- Advocate for the City's interests.
- Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all levels within the City, regulatory, other agencies, special interest groups, and the public
