The business includes The AARP® Automobile and Homeowners Insurance Program and is written through the Direct Channel and through Independent Agents.The Assistant Director is a key member of the Homeowners Countrywide Product Team within Personal Insurance. This position is responsible for leveraging a highly analytical background in the context of exposure / catastrophe management for the Homeowners line of business. This is a high-impact role that drives innovation in risk strategy and exposure management across a national portfolio.Responsibilities:Provides guidance and mentorship to team members on catastrophe models and risk managementServes as a subject matter expert on various catastrophe models including inputs/outputs and primary/secondary characteristicsPartners with IRM to evaluate the catastrophe Risk Models and identify any business implicationsProvides guidance to business partners in visualizing varying geographic level catastrophe riskDevelops an action plan against observations from catastrophe management performance monitoring / outlier risk managementAssess competitor pricing and underwriting catastrophe strategies and considers them within internal recommendationsLeads the end-to-end- product development process for capabilities that enable our exposure management strategies from market research through ideation to implementationParticipate in larger “new” initiatives and may lead a functional work stream to develop and deliver products with limited oversightProactively researches the market for the latest available risk assessment metricsLeads proof of concept analyses with external vendors to evaluate their products and ideates on how we can enhance our offering accordinglyCollaborates with the Data Science to incorporate updated catastrophe model pricing into class planRepresents the Homeowners Countrywide Product Team in cross-functional meetings and initiativesCritical Skills:Demonstrates critical thinking and decision-making on complex business problemsAbility to translate complex data into actionable business insightsStrong technical skills with ability to work with large datasets and advanced analytical toolsExperienced with Microsoft programs, SQL, geospatial tools (e.g. ArcGIS), statistical packages (e.g. R, Python) or similar programs used to collect and analyze dataDemonstrates effective written and verbal communication and decision-making skillsAbility to collaborate effectively with business partnersDrives innovation and continuous improvement in catastrophe risk management practicesStrong organizational and time management skills with ability to execute on timelinesQualifications:Understanding of catastrophe risk modeling and metrics is highly preferredStrong mathematics / statistics background requiredMinimum 5 years of relevant insurance experience in analytics or risk modeling preferredArcGIS experience preferredAdvanced degree and/or insurance designations(s) preferredThis role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live in close proximity to one of our locations will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.CompensationThe listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
