Job DescriptionPosition Summary:The Director of Inbound Logistics - Retail is responsible for leading and optimizing the inbound flow of merchandise from global and domestic suppliers to distribution centers and retail locations. This role ensures that products arrive on time, in full, and at the lowest total landed cost, supporting inventory availability and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in retail logistics, vendor collaboration, and transportation strategy.Key Responsibilities:
  • Inbound Strategy & Execution
  • Develop and execute inbound logistics strategies that align with merchandising. inventory and store operations goals.
  • Manage the end-to-end inbound supply chain from vendor origin to distribution center.
  • Partner with finance teams to develop and manage the AOP and PNL statements for the inbound supply chain, ensuring alignment with operational goals and financial targets.
  • Vendor & Carrier Management
  • Build strong relationships with retail vendors, freight forwarders, and carriers to ensure service excellence.
  • Negotiate freight contracts and optimize carrier mix for cost, speed, and reliability.
  • Evaluate retail vendors’ freight models, negotiate vendor freight contracts, and expand the collect freight program
  • Retail Supply Chain Integration
  • Collaborate with merchandising, planning, and store operations teams to align inbound logistics with promotional calendars and seasonal demand
  • Ensure timely delivery of goods to support product launches and in-store availability.
  • Technology & Visibility
  • Leverage transportation management systems (TMS), ERP, and retail supply chain platforms to enhance shipment visibility and control.
  • Drive automation and digital transformation initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce manual processes.
  • Performance Management
  • Monitor KPIs such as on time delivery, Cost to Serve, vendor compliance, and inventory availability.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce lead times, improve fill rates, and lower logistics costs
  • Leadership & Development
  • Lead and mentor a team of logistics professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and innovation.
  • Champion cross-functional collaboration, communication and knowledge sharing across the supply chain and other functions.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in logistics or supply chain, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the retail industry.
  • Strong understanding of global sourcing, retail distribution networks, and omnichannel fulfillment.
  • Experience with TMS, ERP, and retail planning systems.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with international logistics and customs compliance.
  • Familiarity with sustainability and ESG practices in retail logistics.
  • Lean Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement certification.
