POSITION PURPOSE
  • Under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, Pharmacy Interns will assist in providing pharmaceutical services through a range of professional and technical activities necessary to serve the needs of the patients, physicians, hospital staff and the community. The scope of these activities will always be within the law and in accordance with the Wisconsin Pharmacy Examining Board.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
  • Be formally enrolled in a Doctor of Pharmacy Program that is accredited by Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) at the time of hire and maintain the appropriate progress toward successful completion and state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • Entry Level
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
  • Minimum – Eligible to work as a pharmacy intern in the state of Wisconsin

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Interview patients and/or accesses other sources (physician or pharmacy records) to obtain medication histories – primary job role.
  • May perform drug information retrieval and drug evaluations.
  • May assist pharmacists with monitoring patient profiles.
  • May provide medication information and education to pharmacist staff and medical staff, upon request.
  • May perform medication checking for first dose, cart fill, and medication cabinet dispensing out of the pharmacy, except for controlled substances and compounded sterile and non-sterile products.
  • May triage phone calls from nursing staff and work with the pharmacist on duty to offer solutions to medication-related concerns.
  • May prepare medications for dispensing.
  • May perform clerical duties in the pharmacy to ensure efficient operations.
