- Evaluates, selects, and applies standard electrical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications.
- Participates in the design, development, and modification of components and processes used in the generation, manipulation, transmission, and storage of electricity utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
- Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines.
- Coordinates electrical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction, and other functional groups.
- Prepares conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.
- Provides technical assistance to other electrical personnel and will interact with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards.
- Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project electrical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution.
- This role will support design development of electrical systems and equipment design for the Sentinel project by preparing engineering studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements.
- Works with and mentors junior electrical engineers as well as work with other technical disciplines in a team environment.
- Develops new design drawings using Autocad such as single lines, panel schedules, schematics, cable block diagrams, grounding, lightning protection, cathodic protection, and more.
- Performs power system analysis modeling and calculations utilizing ETAP. Calculations will include Load Flow, Short Circuit, Motor Starting, Relay Coordination, Arc Flash.
- Other facility calculations include, lighting design using AGI 32, facility ground grid sizing utilizing ETAP, and underground cable thermal de-rating analysis utilizing ETAP.
- Performs equipment sizing calculations such as medium voltage utility and low voltage transformers, panel boards, surge protective devices, uninterruptable power supplies, and battery sizing calculations.
- Performs circuit breaker and cable sizing calculations per NFPA 70 to include various de-rating factors.
- Develops equipment and material specifications utilizing the software SpecsIntact.
- Develops procurement documentation (written scopes of work) as well as performs supplier proposal evaluations.
- Reviews vendor submittals and integrates information into the design.
- Coordinates systems requirement development and verifications with systems engineering and the client.
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
- Must be a United States citizen.
- Must be able to complete and pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, drawings, calculations, and specifications for electrical systems and equipment on nuclear or industrial process facilities, data centers, central utility plants, or complex building electrical systems.
- US citizenship is required per contract requirement.
- Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.
- Experience with Microsoft office programs, and other common computer programs.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively.
- Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
- Broad knowledge of the application of electrical engineering design principles.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems for part of, or all of, the responsibilities listed above.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings, systems calculations, equipment sizing, and cable sizing.
- Strong knowledge of power systems load modeling and analysis.
- Registered Professional Engineer in USA (Electrical Engineering).
- Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000.
- Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense.
- Experience executing engineering design with Smartplant 3D.
- Experience performing calculations with ETAP.
- Understanding of mechanical and process engineering discipline drawings and system calculations, as related to electrical design requirements.
- Intermediate knowledge of developing CSI Masterformat specifications, or SpecsIntact. Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide.
- Secret Clearance is preferred, but not required.
