- Performs grading construction and erosion control inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with federal, state, and city codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Records and maintains daily records of activities, including records of personnel, equipment, and materials.
- Reviews construction plans and specifications, contract documents, plat cards, and other documents as necessary to monitor projects and ensure conformance with rules, regulations, and guidelines.
- Maintains accurate records of material usage, reviews, and verifies requests for payment/invoices, and performs other duties as necessary to ensure accurate payment to contractors.
- Conducts on-site inspections to ensure construction work is performed in conformance with specifications and plans.
- Attends pre-construction, progress, and other meetings as necessary to monitor construction projects.
- Make independent decisions concerning construction projects.
- Coordinates work activities between contractors, engineers, site operations, and project managers.
- Serves as a technical resource or mentor to other employees.
- Reviews cost proposals and pricing information. Prepares and administers contracts, requisitions, and requests purchase orders with specific vendors. Compares bids from vendors and determines, or assists with determination based on scope requirements, to whom contracts will be awarded.
- Evaluate supplier and vendor proposals to ensure that all requirements are met.
- Ensures quality so that project objectives and requirements are achieved by developing a quality management plan outlining the quality processes that should be followed throughout the project.
- Mitigates potential risks by incorporating clear and verifiable safety and quality requirements and procedures and enforcing the contract requirements for work plans, accurate specifications and safety.
- May lead or instruct less experienced workers in high level or technical jobs.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of engineering and inspections and all applicable laws, ordinances, and regulations as necessary in the completion of daily responsibilities.
- Skill in effectively communicating and interacting with contractors, management, employees, members of the general public, and all other groups involved in the activities of the City as they relate to the department.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret construction and engineering reports, blueprints, plans, specifications, and ability to make less difficult field and office engineering computations.
