The IT Applications Administrator reports to the IT Director, and performs a wide range of technical and analytical tasks, including implementing configuration changes, managing processes and procedures, and supporting the district's M365 tenant, cloud, and on-premise applications. Responsibilities include monitoring and securing applications against vulnerabilities, developing complex forms for organizational data collection, integrating and managing business process changes, and implementing workflows and automation.Work is performed with considerable independence and is reviewed by the Information Technology (IT) Director. The role involves active participation in all aspects of the IT Division.ESSENTIAL DUTIESApplication & M365 AdministrationAdminister Microsoft 365 tenants, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Power Automate, Forms, Power Automate and related administration tools.Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot District applications, including integration with Azure AD, SAML, and OAuth2.Manage workflows, in-application configurations and online forms to meet user and organizational needs.Monitor, analyze, and enhance the performance, security, and stability of applications and cloud systems.Perform user account management and support day-to-day application operations.Manage and enforce retention and compliance policies to ensure proper data governance and regulatory adherence.Process Improvement & AutomationImprove workflows and processes to increase efficiency and service delivery.Collaborate with departments to automate processes, streamline repetitive tasks, and develop online forms.Migrate paper-based and fillable forms into secure online formats.Write scripts or basic programs (e.g., PowerShell, Python) to support application management and automation.Technology Integration & DevelopmentIntegrate applications using APIs, Microsoft 365 tools, and custom automation.Evaluate, design, and implement innovative technologies and system integrations.Participate in software design sessions, vendor negotiations, and technical reviews.Manage software licenses, upgrades, and version control to ensure current, secure environments.Governance, Security & ComplianceManage change control processes to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of applications.Conduct vendor security and accessibility reviews, ensuring compliance with federal and state accessibility standards.Create and enforce policies for application usage, including AI solutions.Identify and mitigate risks, including potential single points of failure.Support & TrainingProvide technical assistance on Windows and cloud applications, resolving operational challenges.Conduct end-user training on applications, collaboration tools, and cloud computing.Develop system documentation, training materials, and user guides.Serve as a subject matter expert on applications and collaborate with IT teams on cross-functional projects.Assist content creators with website functionality and updates.Collaboration & CommunicationBuild and maintain strong working relationships with staff, vendors, and stakeholders.Act as a liaison with vendors to gather best practices, provide feedback, and oversee support tickets.Contribute to IT projects by organizing tasks, estimating time/cost, and determining requirements.Support IT division operations as needed, including on-call responsibilities.Other DutiesMonitor industry trends and remain current on emerging cloud, networking, software, and telecommunications technologies.Assist with transitioning new technologies into production.Troubleshoot software and assist with project proposals or technical papers.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESStrong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure Active Directory, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Group Policy, and Windows-based operating systems.Knowledge of LAN/WAN environments and cloud technologies (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).Proficiency with performance analysis tools, automation scripting, and application troubleshooting.Excellent customer service, communication, and training skills.Ability to collaborate across teams, lead projects, and foster a culture of trust and ownership.Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to perform under pressure in time-sensitive situations.Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.Capacity to travel to remote sites, participate in rotational on-call support, and work effectively with diverse stakeholders.Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and make sound judgments in complex environments.MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USEDOperates a variety of computers, laptops, radios, servers, telephones, fax equipment, printers, smart devices, and general office equipment. Equipment models may change over time; therefore, competency with equivalent models would be expected.JOB REQUIREMENTS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCEENTRY LEVEL
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3 years' experience in an Applications administration and/or IT role
  • Familiarity with Active Directory Federated Service, M365, and Azure Active Directory
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Excellent technical knowledge of applications and business workflows
  • Experience in at least one programming language
  • Working technical knowledge of current applications and cloud services
  • Ability to operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories
  • Able to read and understand technical manuals and procedural documentation
  • Ability to conduct research into application issues and products as required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language
MASTERY
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, or related field
  • Ten years' experience in an IT role
  • Five years' experience in an applications administrator role with the District
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate within all facets of the job
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • Provides excellent customer service to all internal and external stakeholders
  • Must have two of the following certifications:
  • CompTIA Security+
  • Azure Cloud Certification
  • M365 Certification
  • ITIL Foundation Certification
  • Other certifications approved by the deputy chief of administration and the IT director
OTHER NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSMust be at least 18 years of age. Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license (or be eligible to obtain one by time of employment) and exhibit a safe driving record. Failure to maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record is subject to Administrative Procedure : Operation and Use of District Vehicles. Must successfully pass a background investigation, polygraph examination, pre-placement physical, and a substance screen prior to employment.Must demonstrate the ability to meet the physical demands of the job including the ability to retrieve information from various locations in the office when needed. Overtime and 24x7 standby will be required as needed. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
