- Demonstrated history of designing and implementing processes that create efficiencies and establish clear workflows.
- Familiarity with commonly used governmental portals.
- Clinical Research, including budget development, audit and compliance of grants functions, including reviewing documents against grant requirements, federal government regulations/guidelines, effort certification, and letter of agreement/letter of intent
- Bachelor’s degree
- Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or comparable certification within three years of employment
- Demonstrated ability in management, recruitment, retention, and development of staff
- Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- Aptitude for conflict resolution and problem-solving
- Working knowledge of academic and healthcare systems
- Demonstrated ability to develop strong, collaborative relationships and persuade and influence others
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office products and business enterprise systems such as Workday, Epic, and clinical trial management
- Prior experience with proposal development and the completion of grant applications (including electronic submissions), negotiating effectively with sponsors and subrecipients, and monitoring post-award sponsored project activities
- Proven leadership skills and the proven ability to independently plan, organize, and complete complex tasks
- Conducts monthly expense, revenue, and volume monitoring of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta research enterprise through a thorough understanding of the general ledger and budgeting systems.
- Identifies and analyzes variances and works with research leaders to explain, address, and report to leadership.
- Creates and presents pertinent reports that identify productivity, utilization trends, and any other analyses necessary through a thorough understanding of the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta research and financial systems.
- Identifies red flags and works with leadership to develop plan to address or sustain. Communicates results to leadership research enterprise, and applicable service line leadership.
- Performs and provides financial leadership/management oversight for post award administration and processing, including effort reporting.
- Assists department, service line, or strategic focus area with administrative and financial activities associated with research or other sponsored projects.
- Coordinates with Finance Leadership for department, service line, or strategic focus area to ensure communication regarding research activities and works with finance to provide economic forecasts to aid PIs with strategic planning of research programs.
- Coordinates with Pre-Award Research Administration, Office of Grants Accounting, Foundation, and Government Affairs (as appropriate) to ensure extramurally awarded funds are prepared, processed, and managed appropriately.
- Provides oversight for research technology such as CTMS, Epic Research, and REDCap to produce billing calendars to ensure a compliant billing program.
- Manages research grant, research endowment, and research donor budgets for clinical research infrastructure and other selected departments as identified, including monitoring/approving expenditures, reconciling monthly financial reports, making corrections and adjustments as needed, and providing variance analysis reports as needed for extramurally and intramurally awarded funds.
- Prepares and reviews operational and financial reports for study teams, leadership, and sponsor representatives.
- Reads and interprets federal regulations, including OMB Uniform Guidance for application to budgets and submissions.
- Communicates federal guidelines and special conditions imposed by granting agencies to appropriate staff.
- Supports Uniform Guidance audit as necessary. Establishes and maintains ongoing cooperative and productive relationships with appropriate internal and external contacts, including government granting agency contacts (in coordination with Government Affairs) and research administration contacts at Emory, Georgia Tech, and other academic partners.
- Reads and interprets proposal guidelines for external grant submissions. Ensures, through appropriate communications, compliance with grant specifications as well as cooperative development of the direction, goals, and objectives of grants.
- Develops, implements, and maintains budgets for all areas of responsibility within parameters set forth at the beginning of each fiscal year, reviewing financial reports monthly and as required.
- Advises and collaborates with research teams and finance to report effort certification.
- Responsible for all aspects of managing and leading a team including interviewing, hiring, developing, directing work and processes, managing performance, recognizing, and rewarding employees.
