- Performs a wide variety of laboratory tests and examination procedures on human body fluids, tissues and /or other substances obtained from in order to determine presence of normal and abnormal components.
- Utilizes laboratory equipment, instruments, containers, and other devices and materials to perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of substances.
- Identifies and resolves equipment malfunctions to ensure continuous, proper and safe lab operations.
- Resolves unusual test orders and questionable specimens by communicating with the originator and by referring unresolved orders back to the originator for clarification.
- Participates in the more complex and critical analyses and evaluation of test results.
- Instructs other technologists and laboratory trainees in the proper procedure and techniques of conducting tests.
- Participates in quality assurance data collection and performance improvement implementations.
- Checks in Proficiency Testing samples when they arrive and performs testing as needed.
- Assists record keeping of staff training and competency.
- Keeps track of instrument inventory & service records as assigned
- Participates/leads small projects and performs test/instrument validations as assigned. Participates in new hire training.
- Perform specimen send out process according to specimen referral procedure and determine the acceptability of the specimens for send out testing according to established criteria.
- Identify, replenish and ordering department supplies as necessary.
- Assist the Supervisor with the day to day operations of the laboratory.
- Takes corrective steps when test systems and results deviate from established performance standards and specifications.
- Ensures full compliance with all HIPAA regulations by all lab staff members.
- Ensures high quality and accuracy of all lab activities and testing.
- Performs other job-related activities as requested.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or related Health Care field with a full 4- year course of study that included or was supplemented by at least one (1) year of clinical laboratory training and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years in clinical laboratory science field.
- Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist with ASCP or equivalent certification required.
- Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures.
- Interest in medical subjects, patient services/care, and customer service.
- Prior hospital lab environment work experience is preferred.
