- Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance on multi-color sheet-fed offset printing presses to ensure optimal performance and print quality.
- Set up and adjust printing plates, ink fountains, and press rollers to achieve precise registration and color consistency.
- Monitor press runs for defects such as misregistration, ink density issues, and other quality concerns, making real-time adjustments as necessary.
- Conduct detailed inspections of printed materials to ensure adherence to customer specifications.
- Work with the pre-press team to resolve file and plate-making issues, ensuring seamless production.
- Perform deep cleaning, lubrication, and scheduled maintenance on press components to prevent breakdowns and extend equipment life.
- Continuously evaluate and optimize press performance to improve production efficiency, reduce downtime, and minimize waste.
- Identify and resolve mechanical or operational issues that impact quality and output.
- Analyze production logs, quality reports, and operational data to implement workflow enhancements.
- Follow job ticket instructions and work closely with the scheduling team to meet production deadlines.
- Supervise and direct the efforts of assigned press helpers to ensure seamless operations and effective teamwork.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
- Adhere to company-mandated safety protocols, including proper handling of chemicals, inks, and solvents.
- Wear and enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Promptly report any workplace hazards, near-miss incidents, or equipment malfunctions to management.
- Accurately complete work center time sheets, production reports, and maintenance logs.
- Train and mentor press helpers and junior operators, ensuring they develop the necessary skills to operate and maintain offset printing equipment effectively.
- Provide hands-on guidance in troubleshooting, press setup, and quality control techniques.
- Foster a team-oriented culture that promotes skill development, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain a consistent and reliable attendance record by arriving on time and being prepared to work each shift.
- Follow company scheduling policies, including adherence to assigned shift times and break schedules.
- Communicate any schedule-related issues with supervisors in advance to minimize disruptions to production.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support production needs, including assisting in other printing or finishing operations when necessary.
- High School Diploma or GED required, technical training in offset printing preferred.
- 5-7 years of experience operating and maintaining multi-color sheet-fed printing presses.
- In-depth knowledge of offset printing processes from design, layout pre-press, and post-press operations.
- Knowledgeable in quality control measures and procedures.
- Highly skilled in the use of color control densitometers, interpreting the data generated and the ability to make necessary corrections.
- Experienced in process improvement strategies and has the ability to analyze quality and production issues, suggest changes, and carry them out.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to quickly resolve production issues.
- Ability to follow precise instructions and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong time management, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to train and direct Press Apprentices' or press helpers effectively.
- High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and efficiency.
- Proficiency in basic computer software and the ability to learn new systems.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work well in a diverse environment.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder (sponsorship is not available).
