Schedule: Full-time, 2nd and 3rd shiftsThe Triangle's premier Emergency and Specialty Hospital is growing! We are looking for highly motivated, highly skilled individuals to join our ICU team. Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital (TVRH) provides 24-hour emergency service and specialty referrals in surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, oncology, neurology, critical care and radiology. In addition, our updated facility is outfitted with advanced medical equipment such as MRI, CT, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy and laparoscopy enabling the medical team to offer quick, high-level diagnostics, treatment and follow up care.Job SummaryOur services are expanding, and we are currently seeking qualified technicians for our ICU and hospitalized patient care department for 1st and 2nd shifts. These roles function with a great deal of autonomy and responsibility; solid technical skills, sound judgment, excellent communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work both independently and with a team are required.Essential Job DutiesProvide nursing care to critically ill hospitalized patients in conjunction with specialty and emergency veterinarians
- Participate in nurse rounds
- Triage incoming patients presenting on emergency
- Assess patient stability and obtain patient vital signs
- Perform diagnostics and treatments of emergency and hospitalized patients
- Perform hourly patient assessment and monitoring
- Observe patients and recognize changes in status
- Place peripheral and central catheters
- Restrain patients for exams and treatments
- Set up and administer IV and SQ fluids
- Maintain urinary catheters
- Bandage removal and application
- Perform suture and drain removal
- Perform drug dose calculations for injectable medications and CRIs
- Administer injectable medications (IV, IM, SQ)
- Administer other medications (PO, OU, OD)
- Maintain isolation protocols for infectious patients
- Basic wound cleaning and care
- Administer injectable and inhalant anesthesia
- Monitor patients while under anesthesia and maintain a monitoring log
- Monitor patients during recovery from anesthesia
- Obtain samples for and perform in house laboratory testing
- Assist in CPCR
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
- 2+ years as veterinary assistant or technician in a fast-paced veterinary hospital; specialty or emergency
