- Attend deliveries (vaginal and cesarean) to assume responsibility for newborn transition and stabilization.
- Perform comprehensive newborn assessments, including Apgar scoring, vital signs, and initial physical examination.
- Initiate thermoregulation measures, airway clearance, oxygenation, and circulation support as needed.
- Provide skilled resuscitation in accordance with Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) guidelines if required.
- Administer prescribed medications, immunizations, and prophylactic treatments (e.g., Vitamin K, erythromycin).
- Support initiation of breastfeeding and parent–infant bonding immediately after birth.
- Collaborate with neonatologists, pediatricians, obstetric providers, and anesthesia teams to ensure optimal outcomes.
- Recognize signs of neonatal distress and escalate care promptly, including transfer to NICU when indicated.
- Document assessments, interventions, and education accurately in the medical record.
- Educate and support parents in newborn care, feeding, and safe practices during the immediate postpartum period.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited registered professional nursing program
- Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.
- Experience: Minimum two years experience in Labor & Delivery, L2 NICU, or Mother-Baby care preferred.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire. Other unit specific certifications as required.
- Other: Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and rapid decision-making skills. Compassionate approach with emphasis on family-centered care.
- Physical requirements/demands: Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift. Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties
