We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Controller to join our team. This is a key leadership role responsible for managing day-to-day finance operations, payroll, compliance, and reporting, while also helping shape financial strategy through insights and recommendations. The ideal candidate brings professionalism, integrity, and a team-first mindset and thrives in a fast-paced, construction-driven environment. As you know, payroll is a complex role that requires someone confident in managing it.This is a full-time, exempt role based onsite in Escondido, Monday through Friday from approximately 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with additional hours as needed.Candidate must reside in North County San Diego or be able to commute daily to Escondido.Key Responsibilities
  • Lead monthly financial reporting, reconciliation, and compliance processes
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
  • Oversee weekly payroll, including prevailing wage requirements, deductions, and benefits reporting
  • Manage labor compliance for prevailing wage subcontractors
  • Monitor insurance, fringe, and benefits reporting; investigate and resolve discrepancies
  • Handle tax filings, audits, and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Manage month-end close and year-end financial activities
  • Collaborate with HR and Operations on labor planning, reporting, and workforce compliance
  • Support accurate job-cost tracking and adjustments
  • Oversee asset management and annual reporting tasks
  • Supervise payroll/accounting team members and support their development
  • Perform other duties as needed to support the business
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a construction environment, with a strong background in payroll, prevailing wage, and WIP reporting
  • Proficient in reconciliation, job costing, payroll, AR/AP, asset management, and financial reporting
  • Experience supervising accounting/payroll team members
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to handle confidential data with care
  • Excellent communication skills across all levels of the organization
  • Able to work collaboratively across multiple departments
  • Must be based in North County San Diego or able to commute to Escondido daily
  • Schedule: Full-time, on-site, Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM 3:30 PM (additional hours as needed)
  • Drug screen and background check required
  • Working references must be provided
Pay & Benefits
  • Salary Range: $110,000 $160,000/year (DOE)
