- Provides support to dentist, surgeons, hygienist and staff as needed; assist chair-side, hands instruments and materials to dentists maintain filed of operation during dental procedures through appropriate technique: i.e. Suction, irrigation, drying, or other devices(Four- Handed Dentistry); Prepares materials for impressions and restorations; completes dental x-rays and processes x-ray film as directed by dentist; Prepare, support, counsel and calm patients for treatment; obtain and update dental records; transportation of patients;
- Assist in the preparation, maintenance and care of supplies, equipment and facilities within the Department of Dentistry; Monitoring, and documenting room inventory and resupplying treatment area on a daily or on as needed basis and monthly; maintain a surgically clean work environment. Maintaining and sterilizing dental equipment; prepares instrument trays for dental procedures; assists with clerical duties included but not limited to: office duties, schedule and confirm appointments, receive patients, keep treatment records; assist in updating and maintaining patient dental records
- Provides patient care assistance utilizing age specific competencies {geriatric, adult, pediatric, etc.] that meets each patient unique needs.
- Providing patient education regarding oral care and prevention of oral disease, provide pre and postoperative instruction. Offer patients recommendations and materials necessary to maintain good dental health.
- Complete no less than one hour of training or education in infection control in a dental setting every two years. Maintains up to date patient care and technical knowledge.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of Certified Dental Assistant Training Program, including:
- Successful completion of DANB or CODA Infection Control education (ICE)
- Successful completion of DANB Radiography (RHS)
- Successful completion of DANB General Chairside Assisting (GC)
- Two (2) years in a dental practice
- If certification of DANB or CODA is incomplete, must be completed with three (3) months of employment.
- CPR certification
- Bilingual Spanish preferred.
