Description of Work~RECRUITMENT RANGE: $35,984 - $52,109/NC07~The mission of the North Carolina Community College System is to open the door to opportunity for individuals seeking to improve their lives and well-being by providing education, training, and retraining for the workforce, including basic skills and literacy education, occupational and pre-baccalaureate programs; support for economic development through services to business and industry; and services to communities and individuals which improve the quality of life.DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The Accounting Technician position is responsible for working collaboratively with the College Funding Unit, business office personnel across the 58 North Carolina Community Colleges and other State of NC agencies. In collaboration with the College Funding unit, this position ensures that the 58 community colleges submit monthly financial reports in a timely manner, verifies the accuracy of the reports, and reconciles state bank accounts with the Office of the State Treasurer.Duties include but are not limited to the daily posting of community college revenue, preparing cash disbursements for community college payroll and operating cost, budget entries, budget and expense monitoring, reconciling community college state bank accounts, troubleshooting, and reporting expenditure and revenue general ledger activity. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies(Management Preferences)
  • Considerable knowledge of accounting methods, procedures, and accounting practices.
  • General knowledge of a variety of technology, financial systems, and software packages to create and maintain data.
  • Experience with MS Excel and other MS applications
  • Ability to research, identify, and resolve discrepancies in accounting transactions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
