  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Public Administration, or related field Minimum 5 years marketing, public relations, events and community engagement experience
  • Computer skills to include Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe illustrator as well as Social Media and Web software
  • Effective/persuasive verbal communication skills
  • Effective and concise writing skills
  • Website management knowledge
  • Person of high integrity and willing to support and promote the mission of The Salvation Army
  • Able to work irregular hours, holidays, and respond to crises or deadlines on short notice
  • Represent The Salvation Army in a professional manner and appearance
  • Must have the ability to work with the public, and be a representative of The Salvation Army’s image in the community
  • Must have own reliable transportation with a valid NV Driver’s License
  • Complete and pass Salvation Army Fleet Safety Training
  • Able to pass a criminal background check & complete the Protect the Mission training(s)
RESPONSIBILITIES:Public Relations
  • Create, plan & manage a public relations plan for Las Vegas, and greater Southern Nevada Area.
  • Coordinate all public relations aspects of activities, marketing events, emergencies or breaking stories, supporting all local units.
  • Prepare and distribute fact sheets, press/news releases, photographs, scripts, video/audio recordings to media representatives, and other groups who may be interested in learning about or publicizing TSA events, programs, etc.
  • Arrange and plan for the taking of photos/videos at TSA events and fundraisers.
  • Maintain a photo library.
  • Cultivate/develop close working relationships with media representatives/outlets.
  • Coordinate production of marketing materials and presentations.
  • Produce communications materials targeting specialty and general audiences.
  • Field all media inquiries, including interviews and on-air sound bites, follow leads as requested.
  • Responsible for all event-based media.
  • Write event speaking points and scripts.
  • Promote good will and community awareness through such publicity efforts as speeches, social and business gatherings, etc.
  • Develop & facilitate new and support ongoing special events and programs that work to enhance the image of The Salvation Army and bring awareness to community members of the services provided and opportunities for support of in-kind, monetary, time, knowledge, and/or service donations.
  • Attend and assist with coordination of TSA participation in annual community and in-house events.
  • Create and manage projects relating to statewide, regional, or nationally designated program activities and promotions.
  • Work with area Officers and managers to promote and plan annual luncheon/dinner and award events, designating catering arrangements, invitations to special guests and speakers.
  • Maintain fund raising event mailing databases.
  • Clearly communicate the history, mission and ministry of The Salvation Army.
  • Write press releases and serve as media source for interviews and facilitate interviews with selected contacts.
  • Participate in planning and implementing special events including preparation of communication materials.
  • Provide updated information, stories and articles related to Las Vegas Metro for the Social Media/Website Manager.
  • Search for ways to implement/exploit new technologies to promote The Salvation Army brand.
  • Cultivate and nurture networks of resources in the community, especially with media outlets.
  • Prepare and distribute fact sheets, news releases, photographs, scripts, or video/audio recordings to media representatives and other groups who may be interested in learning about or publicizing TSA events, programs, etc.
  • Arrange for and conduct public contact programs designed to meet the mission and objectives of TSA.
  • Research data, create ideas, write copy and lay out artwork, contact media representatives and represent The Salvation Army as needed.
  • Encourage, promote and facilitate best practices in public relations throughout the Las Vegas Metro area.
  • Prepare reports as required in response to both internal and external requests.
  • Work in close cooperation with the Divisional Public Relations Director as appropriate.
  • Assist the Las Vegas Metro Coordinator and Divisional Development Department personnel in achieving both capital and operational fund-raising goals.
  • Gather and disseminate information in a timely and efficient manner in connection with emergency disaster response.
  • Serve on various Salvation Army and community boards, councils, and committees, etc., as appointed from time to time.
  • Assist in the operation of seasonal events and programs.
  • Assume a key role as a member of the management team coordinating Las Vegas Metro seasonal activities.
  • Serve as liaison with corporations, service clubs and other community groups in connection with seasonal and other initiatives as assigned.
  • Attend conferences, seminars and other continuing education opportunities as appointed or assigned.
  • Submit articles, stories and information pieces to The Salvation Army publications on a regular basis through the Divisional PR office.
  • Develop a Speakers Bureau of TSA officers and program directors for media spots & other community engagement, developing talking points and speeches for speakers.
  • Identify and utilize various PR opportunities to place Divisional and Corps/unit leadership in front of the public/media.
Community Engagement
  • Develop and maintain relationships with corporate and community partners
  • Assist in program planning to include development of Social Service programs and finding resources to expand upon existing programs.
  • Attend community agency meetings representing TSA as assigned & report relevant information directly pertaining to TSA programs.
  • Work closely and cooperatively with local Corps to promote positive program outcomes in service to the community.
  • Working knowledge of the State of Nevada statutes and codes that have an impact upon the development and operation of services to poor and homeless families.
  • Work with and support the efforts of Advisory Board PR Committee for Las Vegas and extended service locations.
  • Act as a liaison to disseminate information to outside agencies regarding the availability of TSA services.
  • Research, develop, and initiate new forms of community participation (Community tables, events, booths, etc.)
  • Attend speaking engagements and tours on behalf of The Salvation Army.
  • Prepare both internal and external reports as required.
  • Develop and coordinate Fund Raising events for the local corps in conjunction with the Advisory Board and County Command.
  • Assist in the overall departmental budget preparation for PR and Fund Raising/Recognition events.
  • Develop and implement an intern or volunteer program/projects with UNLV, or educational facilities to support Events and Community Engagement.
  • Other duties as it relates to the position of Public Relations & Community Engagement Manager.
