Posting TextNorthern State University seeks one full-time Instructor of Communication Studies or one fulltime tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communication Studies with a start date of January 2026 but will consider a start date of Fall 2026.Qualifications: The Department of English, Communication, and Global Languages seeks an individual with an MA in Communication Studies (Instructor) or a PhD in Communication Studies (Assistant Professor) with a commitment to undergraduate education. ABD with a definite completion date will be considered. The successful candidate will teach CMST 101 Fundamentals of Communication and contribute to the department's core curriculum including upper-level communication studies courses. University level teaching experience is preferred. The ability to conduct research in the candidate's area of expertise is expected. Area of specialization is open, though candidates with expertise in strategic event communication, digital media and communication platforms, and/or health communication are particularly encouraged to apply.Responsibilities: The applicant will teach twelve credit hours per semester in introductory and upper-level Communication Studies courses, depending on the expertise of the applicant and departmental needs. The applicant will also contribute to developing interdisciplinary components within the Communication Studies curriculum. Other expectations include research and scholarly activity, career advising, fostering connections with community organizations, maintaining a strong campus presence, supporting student recruitment and retention efforts, and other duties as assigned, such as teaching First Year Seminar.
