Best Workplace awardee.Remote in Austin, TXPosition: DevOps Team Leader EngineerWe're seeking a hands-on DevOps Engineer Team Leader to join our Engineering organization and take ownership of the deployment, orchestration, and secure operations of our cutting-edge identity and security products. You'll lead a global team while staying intimately involved in the technical delivery and evolution of our DevOps strategy.This is a player-coach role: you'll architect and implement solutions directly, while also guiding, mentoring, and enabling a team of engineers to operate at the highest standards of DevOps excellence.What You Will Be DoingLead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of build and release pipelinesProvide day-to-day guidance and direct support to a team of three global DevOps engineersConduct 1:1s, deliver performance reviews, and promote professional development across the teamArchitect and execute cloud deployment strategies for optimized performance and cost efficiencyReview code, infrastructure configurations, and documentation to uphold best practicesTrain and mentor developers and stakeholders in Azure DevOps and Git workflowsAdvocate for DevOps culture and best practices across engineering and IT teamsCollaborate with Infrastructure engineers to diagnose and resolve deployment challengesDocument and communicate procedures with clarity and consistencyTroubleshoot issues during deployment and provide production support in staging and live environmentsRepresent the team in cross-functional meetings with insightful recommendationsResearch and evaluate emerging technologies for possible adoptionKey ResponsibilitiesInfrastructure & Cloud OperationsDesign and manage Azure infrastructure using IaC principles with Terraform and TerragruntMaintain AKS clusters with Istio for secure, scalable service-to-service communicationManage Azure resources such as networking, Key Vault, Blob Storage, and CosmosDBConfigure OpenSearch clusters for efficient logging and data indexingOptimize CosmosDB performance with scaling strategies and cost oversightDevOps Practices & AutomationLead the development of robust CI/CD pipelines.Establish and maintain GitOps workflows via ArgoCDAuthor and maintain automation scripts (primarily Bash) to streamline operationsContinuously evaluate and enhance deployment and developer processesSecurity & ComplianceImplement Zero Trust security architecture using Azure PIM and RBACDefine and enforce least privilege access models and security best practicesConfigure Web Application Firewalls (WAFs) and manage network security in AzureEnsure alignment with compliance frameworks and standardsMonitoring & ReliabilityDeploy observability tooling using OpenTelemetry, Azure Monitor, and Application InsightsParticipate in on-call rotation and incident response protocolsLead post-incident analysis and drive implementation of long-term fixesDefine and maintain reliability objectives, SLAs, and error budgetsRequired Qualifications5+ years of DevOps/SRE experience in SaaS or cloud-native environments2+ years in a formal engineering leadership role, including people management and performance reviewsProven expertise with Microsoft Azure infrastructure and servicesStrong hands-on experience with:Terraform and TerragruntKubernetes (AKS) and HelmIstio Service Mesh and Istio Ingress GatewaysArgoCD and GitOps workflowsCI/CD pipelines via Azure DevOpsZero Trust architecture, including PIM and RBACObservability tools: OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Azure MonitorBash scripting; Python or Go for automation/toolingComfortable supporting production systems in on-call rotationStrong communication, leadership, and troubleshooting abilitiesExperience with WAFs and secure network configurations in AzurePreferred QualificationsHands-on experience with Kafka and event-driven systemsFamiliarity with microservices and distributed systems architectureAdvanced knowledge of OpenSearch or ElasticsearchDeep understanding of CosmosDB performance tuning and data modelingExposure to Azure API Management, Logic Apps, and other Azure native servicesExperience building and operating large-scale SaaS platforms#LI-HA1#LI-HybridWhy Join Semperis?
