Position SummaryThe University of New Mexico Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is seeking applicants for a Counselor/Social Worker position.The person in this position will provide a range of psychological assessments, diagnostic, therapeutic, and/or case management services for individuals, couples, groups, and/or families, as appropriate to the specific expectations of the position. Typically works under the direct guidance of a clinical professional within the environment of a clinical agency or a medical/hospital facility. May provide practical training and guidance to students and/or paraprofessional staff, as required.Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is a comprehensive health service available to all currently enrolled UNM students. SHAC is located North of Johnson Center and across from the Student Union Building. It is open Monday through Friday and is closed on all UNM holidays. - Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
- May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable.

- Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
- CPR and Basic First Aid Certificate may be a requirement for some positions in this classification.
Preferred Qualifications
- A New Mexico license to practice is required before new counselors/social workers hold clinic hours. While a New Mexico license is preferred upon application, we encourage applicants from outside of NM to apply, with the expectation that they will pursue obtaining a NM license.
- At least 6 months of experience serving on multidisciplinary team in an outpatient setting.
- Experience in managing mental health crises, suicidality, and victim violence.
- Training and experience in time-limited treatment approaches.
- Cultural Sensitivity/Competency training of UNM Campus diverse communities: ethnic groups, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, international, disability, 1st generation, non-traditional, etc.
- Experience with use of technology in Behavioral Health/Teletherapy.
- Experience assessing and treating issues common in a college student population.
- Experience developing and facilitating outreach programming for diverse/marginalized populations.
- Substance abuse/ recovery skills to assess and refer to appropriate level of care.
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to justice, equity, accessibility, diversity and inclusion (JEADI) praxis, including anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-ableist, anti-homophobic, anti-transphobic practices.
- Willingness to engage in cultural humility and culturally sustaining practices at UNM as a minority serving institution.
