Job Title: Patient Coordinator I
Duration: 3 Months
Location: Flushing, New York
Shift Timing:Monday – Thursday: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PMFriday: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PMJob SummaryThe Patient Coordinator I is responsible for greeting and establishing first contact with patients in person or via telephone. The role includes updating patient demographics, verifying insurance, ensuring appropriate coverage, and providing general support to ensure smooth patient flow and communication within the practice.Duties and ResponsibilitiesGreet patients either in person or by phone, and update their insurance/demographics in the practice management system.Verify patient insurance prior to the visit or at time of arrival and ensure physician accepts presented insurance.Communicate with staff regarding patient arrival and ensure medical records are available for the physician.Process and update HIPAA-related paperwork and other required institutional forms.Collect or retrieve referrals or insurance authorizations as required.Monitor waiting room status and advise patients regarding wait times.Collect patient co-pays (if applicable), providing receipts in compliance with cash-control processes.Schedule follow-up appointments when necessary.Provide patients with medical records request guidelines.Enter simple charge entry tasks or process patient payments and prepare deposits (duties are mutually exclusive).Answer practice phones and schedule appointments.Follow HIPAA and governmental requirements in handling PHI documents.Initiate appointment reminder calls when required.Perform other related duties as assigned.Work EnvironmentManual dexterity required for handling charts, computer use, and calculator operations.Ability to stoop, bend, retrieve files, and manage supplies.Ability to sit, stand, and move around for extended periods.Frequent movement around the waiting room to assist patients and photocopy insurance cards.Skills & QualificationsMinimum of 1 year physician practice experience.On-site training (1 week) provided by practice.Experience in a medical office setting using scheduling systems preferred.Keyboarding skills required.Experience with IDX or other practice management systems preferred.Strong communication skills with multicultural and language-diverse patients.Excellent interpersonal skills and professional telephone etiquette.Knowledge of medical terminology strongly preferred.Ability to adapt to a growing and changing environment.EducationHigh School Diploma or GED required.
