- Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the architectural work to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications
- Analyzes problems with conflicting design requirements, sketches ideas and possible solutions
- Analyzes and reports on the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques and/or difficult coordination requirements
- Prepares or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs for proposals, forecasts, and change orders
- Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals
- Prepares letters to vendors and clients
- Plans, coordinates, or prepares equipment, work and material specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations
- Coordinates architectural efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups
- Prepares procurement and subcontract requisition documents and performs associated technical bid evaluations with award recommendations
- When delegated, provides guidance to other architectural personnel for specific tasks or project-subgroups
- Evaluates, selects, and applies standard Architectural methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgement in making adaptations and modifications
- Designs facility layouts, and architectural details
- Performs building code analyses and compliance, 3D modeling and renderings
- Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction
- Assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs for proposals, forecasts, and change orders
- Coordinates architectural efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups
- Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, renderings, reports, or proposals
- Provides technical assistance to other Architectural personnel and interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards
- Assist in constructability reviews
- Prepares project designs and plans using 3D modeling software
- Support construction by dispositioning field change requests and nonconformance reports
- Act as a mentor or coach for subordinate architects and designers
- Lead and/or participate in technical discussions with client, suppliers, construction, etc.
- Prior experience in facility design/layout and details, building code analyses, Revit modeling and renderings
- Experience with CADD applications, such as Revit
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions and construction methods
- Understands work processes of other disciplines and departments on projects
- Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally
- Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client
- Master’s degree in Architecture
- Registered Architect
- Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense
- Experience with procurement automation tools
- Thorough knowledge of developing CSI Masterformat specifications, or SpecsIntact
- Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide
