Job Description:OverviewWe are seeking a full-time high level Senior Machinist in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will operate multi-axis machine tools to produce and assemble complex prototype parts and components that support multiple engineering teams, ensuring quality, precision and functionality.Essential Functions
  • Study work request, solid model and drawing to determine materials, operations, and tools to produce complex prototype parts for Garmin Aviation, Fitness, Outdoor and Marine products
  • Program requested part or parts using CAM software
  • Set up and operate 5-axis mill
  • Design and build advanced work holding fixtures as needed to produce the requested part(s)
  • Verify conformance of workpiece to specifications using standard measuring instruments and work alongside the CMM Programmer t verify that the part meets the required specifications
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on priorities in order to complete projects on time
  • Apply detailed knowledge of Garmin processes/procedures and collaborate professionally with team/engineering to achieve goals and add value on new products
  • Apply Garmin’s Mission Statement, Vision, Values and Quality Policy and exhibit enthusiasm for and a desire to see Garmin succeed
  • Evaluate equipment and processes to ensure associate safety
Basic Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in Machining Technology or substantially similar degree program AND a minimum of 8 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of 10 years education and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully complete complex projects and/or parts independently
  • Demonstrated understanding of GD&T and how to apply it to the machining process
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of the programming, set-up and operation of CNC mills and/or lathes including 3D contouring and multi-axis work
  • Demonstrated understanding of basic inspection methods and procedures
  • Ability to perform complex 2-1/2 and 3D projects without assistance using available CAM package
  • Ability to program using advanced CAM software tool paths for continuous improvement of part quality and efficiency, including multiaxis toolpaths
  • Demonstrates capability of using good judgement
  • Demonstrated experience with set-up and operation of a CNC Mill
  • Demonstrated proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs. to effectively perform essential functions of this job description
  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be detail oriented and possess the ability to prioritize, organize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment to effectively meet deadlines
Desired Qualifications
  • Machinist certification
  • Previous experience with MasterCam Software
  • 5-axis knowledge
