OverviewSeeking a new career challenge? Then Woolpert is seeking you! Woolpert is hiring a Senior Traffic Engineer to join our dynamic Infrastructure team at our expanding Lexington, Kentucky office. This position reports to the Engineer Project Manager and is responsible for sitting on our Traffic/Planning group handling projects ranging from traffic impact studies and safety studies to signal/lighting design and maintenance of traffic plans. Qualified candidates will have a BA in Civil Engineering. Priority will be given to candidates who have a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification. This role would be expected to lead projects or tasks as well as help guide less experienced staff through projects, providing staff with project work, and completing QA/QC reviews.We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must already possess work authorization in the country the job is located.ResponsibilitiesAs a Senior Traffic Engineer at Woolpert, you will:
  • Manage traffic projects ranging in size and complexity and/or traffic tasks within larger projects.
  • Manage or assist in managing staff plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Develop or assist in the development of traffic signal designs, traffic studies, safety studies, signing and pavement marking designs, and maintenance of traffic plans.
  • Prepare technical reports
  • Prepare outward facing documents that present clear and concise findings to a general audience.
  • Work within the standards and guidance of clients, both in the public and private sectors.
  • Review work prepared by others including studies, traffic analysis, and design.
QualificationsMinimum Requirements
  • Must have a BA in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Must have a minimum of 8+ years of experience
  • Must have a PE and be able to obtain comity in Kentucky if applicable within 1 year.
  • Must have experience in traffic studies, signal timing, signal and pavement marking plans, maintenance of traffic plans, ITS experience, lighting design and/or other traffic engineering related experience.
  • Ability to work in Civil 3D or Microsoft ORD.
  • Familiarity with traffic analysis software such as HCS or Synchro.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
  • Have a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification.
  • Have experience with traffic engineering projects in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky or Texas.
  • Ability to lead traffic projects or tasks, which includes breaking out work to other staff, maintaining budget and schedule, quality review and coordination both internal and external.
  • Able to work across disciplines both within transportation (roads, structures, etc.) as well as outside of transportation (private development, municipal development, etc.).
  • While the job does not require outward facing coordination, it is preferable that a candidate is comfortable speaking with clients and subconsultant.
  • Ability to train less experienced staff is a plus, but this is not a personnel management role.
  • Some field work may be required, so transportation is a plus.
