SummaryThe purpose of this position is to assist the Library Director and Library staff with a variety of administrative functions and special projects. This is accomplished by coordinating and facilitating activities of other staff members and planning and executing various tasks related to assigned projects, performing project management research and coordinating assigned special projects and programs. Serve as a liaison to other departments as assigned.
The intent of this position description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this position. Incumbent(s) duties include but are not limited to the following:Essential Functions/ Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Assists with planning, development, and delivery of youth programs, babies through highschooler.
  • Aids in the circulation of library materials including shelving and shelf maintenance.
  • Processing of new items.
  • Provides backup assistance at the circulation desk.
  • Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of all reference and circulation policies and procedures.
  • Assists with library programs and displays.
  • Promotes library services and programs through the creation of displays and bulletin boards, flyers, bibliographies, and other types of publicity.
  • Compiles statistical information on areas of service.
  • Assists library staff with reference questions, answering phones, and general public interaction.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Under administrative supervision, the purpose of this position is to provide customer service to patrons and maintains the library's materials and collection, and assists with library programs and other duties as assigned.
  • This Intern position works 10-19 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledge of customer service and public relations practices and methods.
  • Knowledge of computers and related equipment, hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to use programs as needed.
  • Knowledge of City and Library policies and procedures.
  • Skilled in effective oral and written communications.
  • Skilled in resolving employee and customer complaints and concerns.
Typical Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Enrolled in or recently graduated from a university, community college or accredited graduate program within the last 6 months (documents will be requested upon applying to the position)
  • Ability to pass all necessary pre-employment drug screenings
PREFERENCES:
  • Office and administrative experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
