Committed to providing every aspect of treatment and supportive care in a single, convenient location, Moffitt is an established leader in the field of bone marrow transplantation. We are a National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) transplant and collection center, and we are fully accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), speaking to the unwavering dedication and expertise of our team.Our Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Immunotherapy Program serves patients with a number of hematological conditions, including leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, aplastic anemia and MDS, as well as select solid tumors. After individually assessing each patient's condition, our multispecialty team recommends the most appropriate transplant option. We routinely perform:
  • Autologous and allogenic transplants
  • High-intensity and reduced-intensity transplants
  • Cord blood transplants
  • Peripheral blood stem cell transplants
Our BMT Clinic and Treatment Center cares for an average of 70 patients on a daily basis. We are currently looking for a BMT Nurse Coordinator I to join our team.Position Highlights:
  • The BMT Nurse Coordinator I is the entry level position for an experienced Registered Nurse, who will serve as a primary nurse in the outpatient setting for a designated population of patients (primarily pre-BMT and post-BMT patients but also may include patients with the diagnoses for which transplant is indicated). Patients may be in the period from initial consult through long-term follow-up.
  • Under proper department mentorship the BMT Nurse Coordinator I progressively increases performance to act independently in the utilization of excellent organization, communication, and critical thinking skills to work within an assigned patient care team to coordinate the patient experience including but not limited to: the scheduling, accuracy, and follow-up on all workup orders and procedures, assisting with patient and caregiver education, communicating with all stakeholders (verbally, written and electronically), and working in clinic performing ongoing assessments, nursing interventions, and maintaining documentation in accordance with the organization standards and regulatory guidelines.
The Ideal Candidate
  • The ideal candidate will have the following:
  • Hematology oncology experience
  • Blood and marrow transplantation experience
  • Outpatient clinic setting experience
  • OCN Certification
Responsibilities:
  • Maintains knowledge in the provision of care, services, and symptom management to BMT and Hematology patients of various ages and abilities. Consistently and accurately gains skill in organizing and performing the duties of Primary Nurse, with minimal guidance, within scope of practice to coordinate and document the various BMT/Hematology phases of care, related to the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of clinical care in the outpatient environment while taking into consideration common symptoms for many toxicities, side effects and complications of treatment.
  • Functions as a team member working alongside physicians, APP’s, nurses and support staff to coordinate care, communicate results, request assistance, and offer support as needed for defined patient panel. Partners with supportive services within Moffitt to coordinate a plan of care including but not limited to: evaluative testing, financial, pharmacy, donor services, admission, and follow-up care. Serves as the central coordinator for all the phases of care. Participates in Evidence based improvement activities related to area of practice.
  • Utilizes a variety of teaching methods to ensure patient and family understanding of the transplant process and individual responsibilities. Coordinates patient access to the support staff and teaching initiatives within the outpatient setting.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and proficiency in operating multiple electronic applications and databases. Utilizes these applications and databases to monitor appointments, documentation, and results obtained in adherence with Nursing and Department Standards.
Credentials and Qualifications:
  • BSN from an ACEN or CCNE accredited institution with at least two years of relevant experience or ASN from an ACEN or CCNE accredited institution with 2 years of relevant experience
  • FL RN License
  • BLS Certification
