DescriptionSAIC is seeking a mid to senior level Electrical Engineer with a passion for electrical design methods, electrical CAD tools, and Digital Engineering interests to join our energized Engineering Innovation Factory Team of solution architects, digital engineers, and core engineers to define and build the infrastructure that fuels the Digital Engineering Transformation across our entire industry. Our work creating digital ecosystems span an exciting variety of programs, customers and corporate initiatives requiring Digital Engineering and Model Based Engineering applications and infrastructure deployed in Defense, Federal Civilian, and/or National Security environments. This job may be worked remotely anywhere within the U.S with occasional (10% or less) travel to various SAIC or customer sites.As part of our Engineering Innovation Factory Team, you will engage with other engineering and digital engineering subject matter experts and foster broader understanding of their data, tools, metrics and design lifecycle management needs to assist them in developing digital work products. You will also be required to engage with the larger community (Industry, Government, and Academia) to stay up to date with latest trends and emerging technologies, approaches, methods, and techniques to further mature and or increase our digital engineering capabilities in the areas of engineering design, data analytics, reporting, visualization, and to mentor others on our solutions and standards. The successful candidate shall have a passion for solving problems using both proven and trusted methods as well as new and innovative methods. We are seeking someone with skill and experience in a variety of engineering tools such as Altium for PCB capture and a harness and cable design tool such as SolidWorks Electrical or Creo Schematics.Ability to perform most or all of the following duties:
  • Provide thought leadership on the integration of CAD and PLM tools to bring electrical design into the digital age, and define innovations to take engineering design to the next level
  • Provide mechatronics skill set to electro-mechanical design innovation initiatives and programs
  • Provide support to direct programs and capture teams to bring the latest electrical digital engineering innovations to our customers
  • Creates solutions from initial concept to fully tested production; and demonstrates results to a broad range of stakeholders
  • Works with stakeholders to identify needs and gaps in current electrical design capabilities
  • Designs and implements processes and solutions associated with a wide variety of electrical CAD and PLM tools to address these needs and gaps
  • Develops designs for electronic, electro-mechanical, or mechanical equipment
  • Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal
  • Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost
  • Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development
  • Makes layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures
  • Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning
  • Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers
QualificationsRequired Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 5+ years of experience or Masters in Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of experience. An additional 4+ years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret security clearance
  • Hands-on experience with electrical design for various systems (low voltage power, controls, instrumentation, ordnance, radio frequency, etc.), wiring harnesses, and printed circuit boards
  • Mechatronics experience with electronics interface to hardware
  • Hands-on experience with electrical CAD tools (Altium, Solidworks Electrical, Siemens NX, AutoCAD, Creo Schematics, OrCAD, etc.) and Product Lifecycle Management environments
  • Strong understanding and ability to create electrical designs using the latest digital design and simulations tools (MATLAB, Altair Multi-Physics Suite, etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mathematical and statistical applications
  • Experience with Agile development in hardware systems
  • Proven ability to work effectively and collaborate in a dynamic, fast paced, team oriented environment
  • Ability to solve a variety of complex problems in the absence of technical guidelines and when creative thinking is required
  • Proficiency in programming in at least one programming language (object oriented preferred)
Additional Preferred Skills:
  • Ability to work in mechanical design tools (SolidWorks, Creo Parametric, etc…)
  • Experience in R, Python or similar applicable programming languages, with some experience utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) tools and techniques
